Cubs still unbeaten
in District 10-A play

EDTTOR@OLNEYEN TERPRISE. COM
The varsity Cubs overcame
a shaky start versus Petrolia
before blowing Archer City
away last week to remain un-
defeated in district play and
ranked near the top of the
heap in Class 1A, Division
1. The Cubs are still ranked
fourth in the division.
Olney 63, Petrolia 45
The Pirates came to Olney
Thesday, Jan. 15, and gave
Olney quite a shock by com-
ing on strong in the first half.
“ Petrolia is a lot better than
last year, and we went in not
focused to play,” Coach Carl
Pennington said, noting the
blame for that falls on his
shoulders.
The Cubs played a bit of
catch-up during the first
quarter, and ended up on top
15-12. In the second Petrolia
made up some ground to
trail by just a single point, 25-
24, at the half.
“We made some adjusts
ments for the second half,”
Pennington said. “We started
driving to the goal more in-
stead of just settling for the
three point shot.”
Those adjustments paid off
as Olney outscored Petrolia
18-12 in the third period and
20-9 in the fourth to come
away with a win.
Derrick Paul led the team
with 29 points, followed by
Bret Johnson with 18, Rob-
ert Colgan with five, Cooper
Pulliam and Ethen Guerra
with four each and Lane
Spivey with three.
Olney 80, ArcherCity 48
The Wildcats were no
match for a powerful Cub
offensive attack led by Paul
and Pulliam on Friday, Jan.
18, in spite of playing a very
physical game.
“They came out and played
very physical with us,” Pen-
nington said. “But they left
Cooper open and he took
advantage of those opportu-
nities. fm proud of him. He’s
added another scoring threat
for us.”
Olney led 23-6 at the end of
the first period and 45-25 at
the half. In the third the Cubs
posted 19 and held Archer
City to just 11, then finished
up with 16 in the fourth.
Pulliam led the team with
27 points, followed by Paul
with 26, Spivey with 10, Col-
gan with nine and Johnson
and Guerra with four each.
The first half of district play
for Olney ended Thesday at
Electra, and round two be-
gins Friday, dm. 25, at Wind-
thorst On Thesday, din. 29,
Seymour comes to Olney for
a rematch. All games start
with JV girls at 4 p.m., fol-
lowed by the JV boys, varsity
girls and then varsity boys.

of district match-ups
Olney’s varsity girls fell to
0-5 in District 10A play last
week following losses at

After a close first half on
Thesday, din. 15, the Lady

fo r the district win.

ian Garcia and Annie Hirsch
with six apiece, followed by
Lexie Johnson and Madison
Perez with three each; Mi-
randa Kellar, Farren Garcia,

lia 34-16.
Olney 32, ArcherCity 66
The Lady Cubs trailed 13-5
after the first period before
picking up steam and post-
ing 13 points in the second.
At the half, however, Olney
still trailed 29-18. The Lady
Cubs added six points in the
third and eight in the fourth.
Hirsch led the girls with
nine, followed by Farren Gar-
cia with eight, Montgomery
with six, Laura Garcia with
five and Makenzie Cook and
