Megargel Post Office will not close
The United States Post Of-
fice announced last week
that small, rural post offices
which had been slated for
closure will now remain
open with reduced hours of
operation.
The cosUsaving measure
was also seen as extremely
good news for the citizens
of Megargel. The officer in
charge at the Megargel Post
Office, Christine Richards,
confirmed the decision.
Holly Moss, Megargel
city secretary, said, “We are
very excited to know that
the post office will not be
closed. This is great news.
Everyone in Megargel is
thrilled that the post of-
fice will remain open and I
haven’t heard any negativ-
ity from Megargel citizens
about the reduced hours of
operation.”
Robert S. Bolen, postal
spokesman for the Fort
Worth district, said 13,000
post offices in the U.S. will
have reduced hours but will
not be closed.
He said that the public
hearings showed that main-
taining the buildings, post
office boxes and zip codes
were the most important
to residents in small rural
towns.
One aspect of the decision
was the need for elderly
postal patrons to be able to
receive their medications by
mail at a nearby facility.
