Water Pressure Showed Peculiar Con-
dition Company Reports Good
Pressure at Station
Yesterday afternoon shortly after 3
oclock the fire department was called
to the Kennedy grocery store in the
Fourth Ward just south of the com-
press where a small shed room in
the rear of the store was burning The
fire company made a prompt run but
the shed was almost destroyed before
the company arrived However
prompt worked saved other property
from being destroyed keeping the loss
down to the minimum A quantity of
hay was in the shed and was ruined
by fire and water
The water pressure was very poor
and the fire boys said it was the sec-
ond time only since the new manage
ment has had the plant that the pres
sure has1 ever failed them This
morning the water company submit
ted for our inspection the automatic
chart that registers the constant pres
sure of water through the mains The
chart showed that almost immediately
after the alarm was turned in the
pressure ran from normal up to ninety
and finally to one hundred and five
pounds which is sufficient pressure
for all fire purposes Their explana-
tion as to why the pressure did not
develop at the fire is that the plug
used was a private one at the com-
press and Is fed by a pipe much
smaller than the city mains The
chart showed that the pressure was
all right at the pumping station
