•Being a senator ain’t what it is
cracked up to be. We hain’t at-
tended but one banquet since we
been here and we ’don’t like the
style of these here people. They
don’t know7 how7 to dress, and as
for serving a meal at a banquet
they ain’t in it. We seen one man
at the banquet with a red necktie
on, and nearly all of ’em wore
short coats asd dirty shirts. They
don’t seem to know nothing about
what’s the thing to do at a socia
functure. But what else can you
expect from people who have their
soup served dn a tea cup, dnnk
their beer out of an ice cream sau-
cer and give you a little old glass
of sherbet flavored with castor oil
right in the middle of the feed?
We don’t pretend to be no society
dude, but we know what’s right.
We managed to get hold of some
fair licker at the banquet, but some
scoundrel drugged us by pouring
vinegar and consummated soup in
it, and when we woke up we
thought we was with Dryfuss on
the Isle do»Divil. No gentleman
would have done it.—Hardeman

. Fred Harrison, who left for Port
Lavaca today to remain permanent-
* ly, was tendered a most enjoyable
and long to be remembered fare-
well party at the home of his par-
ents in North Cuero last evening
and every participant asserts it
was one of the most delightful so-
cial events they had attended for
some time. Luscious refreshments
were served at a propitious time
and not one was in the least reti-
cent to take hold for they disap-
peared like magic and were highly
complimented At leaving time
all said goodbye to Fred, wishing
him much success in his new field.

“Mamma, if I had a hat before I
had this one, it’s all right to say
that the hat I had had, isn’t it?”
. “Certainly, Johnny.’’
‘’And if that hat once had a hole
in it and I had it mended, 1 could j
say it had had a hole in it,couldn’t
I?”
“Ytt there would be nothing in-
correct in that.’’
“Then it’d be good English to
.say that the hat I had had had had
a hole in it, wouldn’t it?’’—Train-
