Sunday morning last, a girl. The young
miss doubtless came to attend Conference,

in order to secure a good home.
George Gould’s special arrived here
last Friday atternoon about 3 o’clock and
remained until dark. Mr. Gould, in com-
pany with Col. S. H. H. Clark and several
other friends, went quail hunting near the
city, the party being piloted by J. F.
Morris, of this place. Birds were rather
scarce that atternoon, and only nine were
bagged, three ot which were shot by Mr.
Gould and six by Mr. Morris, the re-
mainder of tlie party returning without
any game. Mr. Gould promised to re-
turn here next fall and spend a day hunt-
ing _

Mr. Glennan, who for the past tour or
five months has been doing the mechani-
cal work on the Populist Sun, has gone to
New Orleans to accept a position. The
Sun tailed to come out last week and will
not likely make its appearance again soon
unless new arrangements are made. Cold
Cabbage Bearden, its perpetrator, is at
tending court at Brown wood, and may
not return tor several days—possibly
longer.

The entertainment at the college chapel
Wednesday niyht, given by the pupils of
the Alexander Institute, was well attend-
ed. The program was well rendered and
the audience could not have been better

ball,” which arrives at 8:02 a. m. north-
bound and 8:00 p. m. southbound, but the
“bob-tail” train, which formerly passed
this place going north at 7:34 p. m.. now
comes at 10:44 p. m., and the southbound
arrives at 4:46 a. m.. instead ot 9:32 a. rn.

A rope-walker gave an exhibition here
yesterday atternoon, having his rope
stretched from the top ot the Morris
building to the opera house building on

street several times, standing on his head
