Math, science teams
capture another title
Seminole High School’s math and
science team won the Sweepstakes
Award at the Andrews Math and
Science Invitational last weekend.
Seminole earned 2,437 points,
while Plains was second with 1,574,
Crane was third with 1,475 and Van
Horn was fourth with 1,429.
Seminole was the first place team in
math, science and calculator
applications and was second in team
number sense.
Individually, senior Steven
Houston again led the team, finishing
first in number sense, math,
calculator and science. He was also
the overall top scorer in biology,
chemistry and physics.
Other seniors included. Josh Jones,
second in science and Clinton
Whitaker, third in science.

Several artists win awards
Students from Seminole High Andrea Hood for a painting titled 'Big Bang Theory”; Powers for a
School earned Gold Keys at the West “Couonmouih”; and Aaron Peel for a sculpture titled “Primal”; and Billy
Texas Regional Competition for the drawing titled “Home Sweet Home.” Webb, a senior, for a drawing titled
Scholastic Art Awards at Wayland Junior Kelly Powers also earned a “Defect” and a drawing titled
Baptist University in Plainview. gold key for her sculpture, “Freedom “Sobriety Test.”
The competition honored just 101 Assemblage.” Honorable mention awards went to
art pieces with gold keys, which Silver Key winners included, seniors Brice Autry, Maryan Bannan,
advances the student’s work to the Bergen, for a painting titled Kay Cosby, Natividad Garcia, Julia
national competition. “Cactus”; Hood for a painting titled Tripp and Katharina Wall. Their

LUBBOCK-The Institute for the Development and Enrichment of
Advanced Learners (DEAL) at Texas Tech University, will host the Spring
session erf “Super Saturdays,” beginning Feb. 9 and running through March
2.
Registration is currently being accepted. “Super Saturdays” are
designed to provided students in kindergarten through sixth grade with
academic and creative experiences beyond the regular school curriculum.
Classes offered include, aerodynamics, animal science, art, biotechnology,
cooking, computers, creative wriung, geology, theatre and others. Instructors
for the classes include members of the Texas Tech faculty, professionals in
various fields and public school teachers.
Students may take as many classes as they wish. Most classes are
limited to 15 students. The average cost of participating each of the four
Saturdays is $69, but fees vary according to subject.
To participate, students must submit a recent report card with a B-plus
or better average.
