Vote for the Bonds
Questions answered by Supt. Charles Thompson
WHY HAVE A BOND ELECTION?
The present facilities are already inadequate. All
available rooms are now in use. Another large first grade
this fall could force us to have classes out of the school
building—such as we did three years ago.
How many bonds does the District pdopose to sell?
By State lay the maximum that can be sold is 10%
of the district’s valuation. We can only sell $208,000. Be-
fore additional bonds can be sold, the present bonds must
be paid off, or by additional valuation caused by growth in
the district..
(Editor’s note—The present deveiopement on the west
of the Highway will increase the valuation at least $100,000.)
Why vote more bonds than we can sell
If the district should grow as is predicted and we!
should need additional space, we would have the bonds voted
and would save several thousand dollars in preparing other
bond issues. No interest is paid on bonds until they are sold.
What will this bond issue cost?
The bondsman has estimated that it will take a tax of
approximately 40 cents to retire the $208,000 in 30 years.
WHY HAVE A FIRST CLASS SCHOOL?
Our children are most important in our district.
It is our obligation to furnish them with an opportunity
for a first class education. The greatest investment we have
is in our children.

VOTE FOR THE
SCHOOL BONDS
Friends of the Howe-Dor-
chester Cammunitv and the
Howe independent School
District:
I am very much interested
with deep concern about the
bond election knowing hew
much we are now in need for
more school room in our
school system. I feel sure
that many of you are also
aware of this situation, so
not only will the need for
more space he fulfilled, but
it will also be something that
we will all be proud of if this
bond issue passses.
I have no children to attend
this school, but many of vou
do, and many will have in the
future. So I believe that the
small added tax of 40 cents
will not be a factor to anyone
when it comes to the educa-
tion of the children of Howe
School. Since I am a tax-pay-
er in this school district, I am
asking and encouraging ev-
eryone to please vote for the
school bond issue.
There are three issues on
the ballot and all three must
pass in order for us to obtain
our new school plant.
Vote for all three issues.
There has been some mis-
understanding and many are
looking at the plan in the
wrong way, so I plead with
you, if you have said that you
are going to vote against this,
that you would reconsider and
contact some member of the
school board: Wayne Gray,
Grady Lankford, Hubert
Knight, Joe Tolbert, Robert
Cooper, Clark Bowden and
W. E. Yonce, or Mr. Charles
Thompson, superintendent of
schools, and ask them to ex-
plain this issue fully to you.
Please place your confidence
in your school board because
we are not going to place an
unnecessary tax burden on
you to get this new school.
Sincerely,
W. E. Yonce, president
Howe School Board.
