Bible school
BENAVIDES--Bible school for students in kindergar-
ten through the fifth grade continues July 26 at the Paro-
chial Hall of St. Rosa de Lima Church. Registration will
be at 8:30 a.m. on July 26. Religious instruction, music
and crafts will be offered to the students.
Hospital site chosen
CORPUS CHRISTI—The northeast comer of Saratoga
Boulevard and South Staples Street has been chosen by the
Spohn Health System as the site for construction of Spohn
Hospital South, which will consist of a medical office
building, diagnostic and treatment center oriented to am-
bulatory care and a full-service hospital. Family-centered
women’s health services will be a major focus of the new
complex. Community physicians are joining Spohn Hos-
pital in the design, direction and planning of Spohn
Hospital South. The new facility is scheduled to open in
early 1994.
Anniversary celebration
DIOCESE OF BEAUMONT-The slaff of the Eflil
Texas Catholic is putting together a history of the Diocese
of Beaumont for its 25th anniversary celebration to begin
in September. The book begins with the Spanish mission-
aries and follows the course of Catholicism in Southeast
Texas through 1991. The book also has sections on the
histories of the parishes, schools an<J hospitals in the
diocese. The history has more than 500 pages and many
photographs from throughout the years. To order acopy at
pre-publication prices, send $20 plus $5 for postage and

Holy Cross Parish Council
CORPUS CHRISTI—The Holy Cross Parish Council is
seeking contact with former students of the parochial
school. The parish grade school Operated from 1917 to
1965. Holy Cross is now 77 years old and thecouncil con-
tinues to work on its history, including planning a photo-
graph of all surviving alumni. All former students as well'

National Night Out
CORPUS CHRISTI—National Night Out ‘91 will have
their annual Senior Citizens Walk-a-Thon,“Walk Against
Crime” on Friday, Aug. 2, from 8:30 a.m, thru 12 noon, at
Padre Staples Mall, with blood pressure screening avail-
able. On Sat., Aug. 3, there will be a mini-parade through
the Leathers Housing Authority, starting at 9 aan. at the
old Minicipal Court parking lot. Everyone is welcome to
attend both events.
Youth Held day
GREGORY— Immaculate Conception Parish will hold
its 1st Annual Youth Field Day, forages 6-18, Saturday,
July 27. Registration is from 10 a.m,-l 1 p.m. with starting
time at II a.m. There will be a special appearance of
Adrian Caldwell from the Houston Rockets as well as

Gran jamaica
LAREDO-Our Lady of Guadalupe Church will have its
annual Gran Jamaica on S unday, Aug. 4 at 1718 San Jorge.
The jamaica will begin at 5 p.m. and will end at 11 p.m.
There will be food, entertainment, games, an auction at 9
p.m, and the Gran Rifa of a 1991 Chevy pick-up at 10:30
p.m.
Father Henry Ligouri celebrated the first Mass at
Naval Station Ingleside last month in the station's
Headquarters Building. In the foreground is the sta-

Cajun fest
ARANSAS PASS-The Society of St. Vincent de Paul
of SL Mary's Star of the Sea Church is sponsoring a Cajun
Fest on Sunday, Aug. 4 from 11 am. to 4 p.m. Jambalaya
or seafood gumbo with potato salad and french bread will
be the main dish for $3.50. Boiled crabs will be available
as well as pecan praulines. There will also be arts mid
crafts, a bake sale, plant walk, games and a raffle. Texans
and other foreigners are most welcome!
New address
LAREDO-The Family Life Office is no longer located
at the Laredo Pastoral Center. On July 1 we moved our
office to a new location at the Holy Spirit Retreat Center
in South Laredo, where sponsor couple materials and
Tribunal forms will be available. The new address and

Mass for end to abortion
INGLESIDE—On the first Saturday of each month, Our
Lady of the Assumption Church in Ingleside will celebrate
Mass at 8 a.m. in honor of Mary. The intention of this Mass
will be for an end of the moral sin of abortion. Following
the Mass will be exposition of the Blessed Sacrament for
adoration and the recitation of the Rosary and private
prayer. Confessions will also be heard during this time.
Taste of Pius
CORPUS CHRISTI—The annual "ISste of Pius”, a
benefit for St. Pius X Church, will be held Saturday, July
27, from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Msgr. Adams Hall, 747
St. Pius Drive. A large array of ethnic and gourmet foods
for sampling will be prepared with a special demonstra-
tion by Maxine Sommers, author, speaker and cuisine
expert of several cookbooks. A live auction will highlight
the benefit. Tickets for food and entertainment will be $7
for adults, $3 for children and may be purchased at die
door. There will be a-drawing for a 1991 Mazda B220
pickup truck, donations are $2 per ticket.
Alliance for mentally ill
Corpus Christi Alliance for the Menially 111 meets on the
third Tuesday of each month at 7:30 pan. at Humana
Hospital, 3315 S, Alameda St, Corpus Christi.
Elias Trevino, a member of Corpus Christi Cathedral
and a retired Marine staff sergeant, proudly displays
the Silver Star he received in 19S7 and the Purple
Heart he was awarded just this past May for wounds
received in action in Vietnam on Feb. 26, 1966. He
was presented with the Purple Heart during a special
ceremony at Sherrill Park in Corpus Christi on July 4.
