Religious discussions clarify
continued from page 1
Dr. Scott Hahn, a former Protes-
tant minister, now a theology pro-
fessor at Franciscan University of
Steubenville discussed with Robert
M. Bowman of Luther Rice Semi-
nary, a former Catholic, the issue of
justification. The dialogue revealed
that Protestants and Catholics agree
on many aspects of salvation, how-
ever differently they view certain
key Biblical verses. Bowman em-
phasized that if one truly has faith,
good works will follow. “Faith is not
simply an intellectual agreement,”
Bowman said.
Hahn defined faith as an unre-
strained consent to do everything
God says. “God gave us the law so
that we might seek His grace. He
gave us grace that we might seek His
law. Grace doesn’t make obedience
easy, it makes obedience possible,”
Hahn said.
The dialogue seemed to help
unify Catholics and Protestants on
the issues they agree and serve to
help them understand each other
on the issues they disagree. Fresh-
man Devin Roza found the confer-

ence uplifting and a learning experi-
ence.
“It was really inspiring to see
how respectful and loving the dia-
logue between the Catholics and
Protestants was. I learned alot about
both the Catholic and Protestant
positions,” she said.
Donna leaves student life position

“I was dissappointed on one
hand, but on the other I’m excited
that she will be getting married,”
said Head. “It’s a good move for her
professionally and personally.”
Head mentioned that he and
Zuker were happy that Donna had
made her intention clear ta them
early, giving them ample time to
adjust to the situation.
Although moving out of the Uni-
versity of Dallas sphere, Donna said
that she still hopes to work with
students in the future. “I would love
to stay in student affairs in higher
education,” she said. She expressed
her hopes to stay in touch with
much of the students here that she
had befriended. “The toughest part
[about leaving] for me is the separa-
tion from the people that I know,”
she said.
A statement is posted outside of
the student personnel office an-
nouncing the position opening and
offering it to anybody of proper qual-
ifications. Three days after its post-
ing, a nation-wide search will begin
Attention Joggers!
Now that the weather is warmer and daylight stretches into the
evenings many more students will spend their free time in out-
door activities. Campus Safety offers the following tips for those
who will be using their free time to stay in shape by jogging:
• be alert and aware of what is going on around you
• jog facing traffic so you can keep an eye on approaching vehicles
• do not wear headset that will block out the sound of what is going on
around you
• know your jogging course well before you jog it alone for the first time
• be aware of public areas where you can run for safety if you need to
• let your friends know when and where you will be jogging
• if possible jog with a friend or in a group
Should you be followed or stalked, take careful note of the indi-
vidual's description, or vehicle description. If possible, without
placing yourself in further danger, get the license plate number of
the vehicle. Run to the nearest safe place and call the Campus
Safety Office, or if off campus call 911.

to be made for a new director of
student activities.
Head said that they will at very
least require that the new director
has had previous experience in stu-
dent activities, and is someone “that
gets along with students.”
President of Student Government
Chris Fisher said he was “a bit star-
tled” when Donna made the an-
nouncement at the SG meeting. “I
was a little surprised, but Wendy
seemed to be pleased with her posi-
tion. She definitely gave alot of blood,
sweat and tears this year,” he said.
Fisher also remarked that he hoped
the new director of student activities
“will gel well with student govern-
ment.”
SG Treasurer Jeff Salisbury said
that he wished her good luck in her
endeavors, and that the only con-
cern he had was who would be cho-
sen to take her place. He expressed
his hope that the office of student
life “chooses a person that will be
able to maintain a quality of activ-
ities and entertainment that is in
line with the university. If the di-
rector of student activities over-
sees the activities of student gov-
ernment the director should be just
an advisor and allow SG to run
itself with the mature and intelli-
gent students of the university.”
When asked what sort of person
she hoped would fill her shoes,
Donna also said that she hoped it
would be someone who has had
prior experience with students, and
“at least an master’s degree.”
“I would hope that a person
coming in to the University of Dal-
las in particular would be aware of
the Catholic tradition and the mis-
sion of the university,” said Donna.
