from England I went to France, -;-
there we stayed in tents. I wrote
my first letter home from there as
that was the first time I had stop-
ped long enough to write. France
was the first war torn country I had
seen. The people would walk the
streets and everytime one of our
boys threw a cigarette down they
were ready to grab it, even the lit-
tle kids. When I left France I went
to Belgium where I spent quiet a
bit of time. I was there on Easter
Sunday and had the privilege of go-
ing to church. We had such a nice
service and quite a few of the boys
gave their soul to God as then they
could see the necessity of being a
Christian. Because they were depend-
ing on Him to keep them safe. I
can’t understand why one wants to
wait until he reatiles he is in dan-
ger before he will think of God. But
now that we have seen these things
over here all of us know how to ap-
preciate life much better and have a
fuller view of life and a serious one.
It changes a lot of us fellows for the
best if they live through it safely.
In your letter of yesterday you
ask if I had been to the front before
it ended, yes, I had two months of
combat service. Don’t feel
