SAPD and
bald-faced lies
We recently learned that the SAPD
lied to the media about money con-
fiscated at a bust that netted a large
amount of drugs. Why did the police
lie about the money that was placed
at the scene when there was no ap-
parent reason to? SAPD claims it
was to protect an informant, but we
have seen where protecting infor-
mants can lead. Severalyearsago.it
was discovered that an informant was
riding in the car with a band of
Klansmen that murdered a well-
known civil rights worker in the
South. The informant revealed who
the murderers were to authorities,
but nothing was done, supposedly to
protect the identity of the informant
Many of us in the Civil and Human
Rights community remember when
the FBI used tons of informants to
spy on civil rights activists in San
Antonio and across the country. The
idea of protecting informants has
definitely been abused by police
agencies across the country. In the
case in question, Deputy Chief Albert
Ortiz gave authorization for false in-
formation to be given to the commu-
nity. Captain Jimmy Kopeck was
also involved in the public deception
and both officers don't even think
they did anything wrong! Incred-
ible!
Police Chief A1 Philippus has told
the press that it won't happen again,
but can we believe that? The Chief
did not reprimand the Captain or Mr.
Ortiz, and so we wonder about the
commitment not to do it again! What
is wrong in doing such things? Well,
if we are bombarded with bald face
lies, then the press and the police
losaallcredihiliiy. In countries where
the fanatical right has taken over the
press, we know what can happen to
democracy. The press must attempt
to report the truth and not lies gener-
ated in the basement of some build-
ing.
Kopeck and Ortiz could have used
some other method instead of trying
to float lies to the community.
Floating lies in the media only serve
the agenda of those telling the lie and
often leads to arrogrance and abuse
of power. Ask anyone who lives in
South America about the lies that
have been floated to the public
through government control of the
press, or of manipulation by the
military or police force.
1 Those responsible for such lies will
always be looked upon with suspi-
cion. Kopeck and Ortiz's actions did
quite a bit to lessen the credibility of
the police in the eyes of the commu-
nity. More importantly, how many
others lies have been told and con-
tinue to be told across the media?
Did Kopeck and Ortiz simply make a
bad mistake, or is this policy part of
some larger agenda to corrupt de-
mocracy?! The fact that they don't
see any harm in what they have done
is scary enough without the thought
that police agencies across the country
often think they are above the con-
stitution. Remember when Oliver
North lied to America and the Con-
gress? North thought he could use
the constitution and the free press to
fund an illegal war in Nicaragua.
I am reminded of the killing of the
rogue police officer Stephen Smith
some years ago and how that case
was washed under the rug. We should
let the Chief know tha we are going
to hold him to the pledge of not
allowing police officers to use the
press in such an undemocratic man
ner.

A religion Without the cross is
not Christ's religion. Christ did not
come merely to blazes trail through
a tangled forest or to set us on an
example of true living. He came to
be a Saviour.
John 3:16 says, "For God so
loved the work! that he gave his
only begotten son that whosoever
believeth in him should not perish
but have everlasting life.".
God has been good to us and set
His love upon us and has sent us
teachers, prophets, and preachers

and luxury. But the more they
warm us, the more we are prone to
him away, and the greater our edu-

Cities, communities, and nations
are educating themselves away
from God.

for we are citizens of a heavenly
country.
Since we are in Christ, and our
life is in Him, we are not identified
with Him in His death, but we are in
union with Him in His resurrection.
In Christ's death, we died to sin, and
in His resurrection, we rose to walk
in a new life.
Remember, as a resurrected
creature, you're no accident going
somewhere to happen. Your life
isn't just a loose web of events and
circumstances. God has specific
plans for you.
Don't let Satan bind you with the
grace clothes of yesterday's sin and
defeat You’re not dead anymore.
You've been raised with Jesus.
Come our from the tombs and start
living resurrection life.
Have a blessed Easter.
Thank God for Jesus,

The Way I See It.
by Henrietta Griffin
Jesus' triumphant entry into
Jerusalem on thatPahn Sunday almost
2000 years ago was certamly modest
compared to that of today's royalty,
but it was much greater in significance
to the world.
Jesus is sad and weeping. Know-
ing He is entering Jerusalem to be
crucified. However, He is not weeping
for Himself, but for the City and its
inhabitants. Jesus is aware that in
spite erf the prophets, words, most of
the people will not repent but face
judgement and i*rwnfniiMrifin This
is why He weeps and say, "If you,
even you, had only known on this day
what would bring you peace."
"Being found in fashion as a man,
He humbled himself and became
obedient unto death, even the death
of the cross."
There were three men. Three
crosses and three deaths. One man
died in sin. He was a dying sinner. He
died with sin in him. One man died
for sin. He was a dying Savior. He
died with sin upon Him. One man
died to sin. He was a dying saint. He
died with sin taken from Him.
Three crosses. One on the right.
One on the left, and one in between.
The one on the right: the cross of
rejection. This is the cross of many
today. They sneer at the cross erf
Christ "Save thyself and us," this
man cried. He wanted to be saved but
not by the center cross. Tohismnay
sins, he added the greatest of all,
unbelief. Of such Jesus said, "If ye
believe not that I am He, ye shall die
in your sins. (John 8:24).
The Center Cross: The Cross of
Redemption. This cross is the wonder
of time. The sins upon Jesus were the
sins of others. We marvel at the love
of God that He would punish His own
Son few the sins of the world. Christ
suffered the agonies of hell so that
His forgiveness willbedeliveredfiom
guilt, punishment, and eternal dam-
nation.
The Cross on the Left: The Cross
of Reception. This cross brought about
a lot of minute conversion. His sins
were cancelled in a moment No tithe
for good works or sacrament. Only
faith in Christ on tbe Cross. What a
change: Morning in Sin. Noon in
Grace. Night in glory. His home in
paradise will he shared by all who
believe. What does the Center Cross
mean to you?......
That's the way I see it!
