Lillian Franklin of Palm

Childress Moore, Houston,
This is the day which the
Lord hath made we will
rejoice and be glad in it.
The Bible says not
rendering evil for evil or
railing for railing but
contrariwise blessing knowing
that ye are thereunto called
-that ye should inherit a
blessing (I Peter 3:9)
What precious words from
a man as changed as Peter
was. He is the one in
Gethsemane on the night of
Jesus arrest who whipped out
his sword to slash one of the
enemy to death, succeeding
in cutting off his ear. Jesus
told him to put up his sword
for those who live by the
sword shall die by it.
Now Peter has lived for
Christ many years much evil
has been done against him.
He is facing a martyr's death
but he has learned in being a
disciple of Jesus a learner
and follower that Jesus was
iis the only way.
We bless those who wrong
us, impossible. No! Mustard
seed faith is the key. In
planting our seed of faith for
the blessing of the person by
rendering good rather than
evil we reap. His good which
is for greater than the seed
we plant and it fills our
lives.
Thank God for Jesus

Food For Thought
We often associate charities
with feeding, clothing and
housing the poor. But did you
know that the U.S. Catholic
Bishops' Collection for the
Church in Latin America raises
funds for the spiritual growth
of the people of Central and
South America? The Collec-
tion provides a unique Way to
demonstrate caring and con-
cern of people who for years
have known little more than
the poverty and hunger of
their land.

helps these people fund their
own projects which in turn
fosters a stronger faith in God
and in themselves. In 1986,
funds from the Collection
helped train lay volunteers to
organize adult literacy pro-
-ams in Santo Domingo. In
Cristobal de las Casas,
Mexico, young people have a
deeper understanding of their
faith through a youth ministry
program, and Guatemala will
soon have 60 more native ■

training program funded in
part by the Collection. The
