The grant funding will be used for
theposition of anew victim advocate
which will assist prosecutors with
sexual assault and child abuse cases.
Positions such as this, are critical to
victims receiving appropriate ser-
vices and exercising their rights in
the criminal justice system.
With this new position, the District
Attorney's Victim Assistance Pro-
gram has thirty individuals dedicated
to assisting victims of crime.

Capital Report
I want to inform you that Census
workers have hit the streets. Cur-
rently, thousands of workers are
going door-to-door in an effort to
have a census count.
These workers will be knocking on
the doors of households who have
not returned their census form.
Currently, Texas has a response rate
of only 57% ranking it 11th out of the
15 southern stales. n,xpcii» pnum
that the Census Bureau will need to
employ thousand more workers, es-
pecially individuals who are bilin-
gual, in order to complete the count
in Texas.
The census count only helps deter-
mine the distribution of hundred of
billions of federal dollars to local
communities, Job training programs,
road and highway funding, and Head
Start are just some of die programs
that rely on census data for distri-
bution of funds.
Hospitals and rural health clinics
recei ve f unding based on census data,
which estimates the health care needs
of the community Moreover, 911
emergency systems across the state
are based on maps that use census
members.
The Census Bureau is not permitted
to release any information submitted
by an individual to any other gov-
ernment agency. Government agen-
cies such as the Internal Revenue
Service, the Immigration and Natu-
ralization Service, :uul law enforce-
ment organizations are not allowed
to have access to responses.

Jordan Community Center and its
