Every day of your child’s life depends on whether or not you vote.
And, whether or not you vote for Clinton/Gore.
If you don’t, the Dole-Gingrich Republicans may get the chance to continue
cutting, slashing and eliminating the things that are important to you and your
family. They’ve already voted to cut school lunches. Limit child immunization
programs and Head Start.
You've got the power to stop them.
President Clinton is meeting the challenges of raising a family, protecting our
values. He pumped nearly $800 million into Head Start • Expanded Child
Immunization and access to quality Health Care *.Supported School Lunches
• Is fighting crime in public housing • Working to prevent teen pregnancy
• Reduced violence and drug abuse in school • Passed the toughest Crime
Bill ever.
CLINTON/GORE
IT’S TOO IMPORTANT NOT TO.
. President Clinton is dealing with the hard issues. But he can’t continue to do it
without your vote.
On Nov. 5th vote for the people you care about.

1 recently drove out San Pddro
Avenue to see the many malls and
business opportunities that
proliferate the landscape. Just to
the north of Loop 410 and across
from North Star Mall is a large
shopping center almost complete.
There is a new Circuit City and
many other department stores that
have been built over the last few
months. The growth in this area of
town has been tremendous!
., going east on Loop 410 one can
' also see the large build up of stores
and another mall right at the 1H-37
interchange. Business after
business is being built and the area
is growing faster than you can
.: keep up with. We are all excited
' about a Wall Green’s being built at
. Houston and New Braunfels, but
this is nothing compared with
; what is going on near North Star
Mall. I’m not knocking the small
, improvements that we have make
. with a new store on the eastside
i but just comparing the differences
between this side of town and the
, - northsidc. We continue to decline
' . while other , bides of town grow by
\' leaps and bounds!
I ’, There is little to celebrate when
< ,ooe compares .what is taking place
on the noiihside with the small
progress being made on the
j^fctside.4 Wq fljould heidW*! with
thhpaogRsaof St. Philip’s and the
apartments that have been built on
Hedges Street. We will soon have
new housing near the Alamo
Dome and the East Terrace is
being tom down. With these types
of improvements you would think
that pressure or influence could be
brought to bear to build up the
eastside. We arc still a long way
off from doing so.
One of the things that has
happened is the flight of many of
the long time residents of the near
eastside. Many who have moved
out refer to their area of town as a
place they would not like to come
to or return to. I have heard many
former residents of the near
eastside say, “I don’t go over there
any more.” Many who have
moved away from their community
now refer to it as a place they
escaped from! What has
happened?!
The powers that be, especially
those that have had a vested
interest in keeping the eastside in
check, have helped to lower the
quality of life here. Many believe
—that the economic interests of
San Anionio
HJB Zachry and others have done
a kit to depress our community.
We need to monitor what these
corporate interests are doing in the
development of the eastside
The residents of Sunrise have
long fumed over the attitude of
RayCo in regards to responsibility
in cleaning up empty lots. The
residents have tried without
success to get Rayco to keep clean
the entrance to Sunrise but to no
avail. Many of these corporate
builders come into our community
and after they sell most of the
houses they want nothing else to
do with the residents. Is that
corporate responsibility?!
To be sure we can expect
outsiders to make an attempt to
control the politics of the eastside.
This is why we need to monitor the
campaign expenditure sheets of all
who are running for public office.
We do not need progress at the
expense of democracy! We need
progress and are willing to fight
for it to negotiate the best package
for the citizens of the eastside.
T?*e eastside can be built up if we
are willing to fight for
improvements We have a long
way to go and 1 know a change is
