Thanks is such a tiny word, but
its worth cannot be measured. For |
it conveys the sentiment of a
sincere heart to people like each of
you who richly deserve it.
The family of Mr. Horton
appreciate the loyalty, love,
kindness, comfort and prayers of
support from Pastor I. V. Winters
and The St. Luke Baptist Church
Family. We also appreciate and
respect the Gooden and Brooks
Mortuary Staff for the consoling
service rendered. We are most
grateful for all the family members
from near and far for the prayers,
visits, phone calls, flowers and
cards bearing gifts of love. A very
special thank you to Rev. B. C.
Brown for the heart felt sermon.
From the family of Chatman
Horton.
Gregory L. Easley
I was glad when they said unto
me, let us go into the house of the
Lord. Peace be within thy walls,
and prosperity within thy palaces.
For my brethren and companions'
sakes. I will now say. Peace be
within thee. Because of the house
of the Lord our God I will seek thy
good.
Gregory, we still think of you
daily in our work. We miss the
laughter we used to share, and the
pleasing smile you brought to all
around you.
Sadly missed by all at the San
Antonio Register, family and
friends.

Psalms 118:24
The Bible Says..As the
bridegroom rejoiceth over the
bride, so shall thy God rejoice over
thee (Isaiah 62:5). And. I am
married (a husband) unto you
(Jeremiah 3:14). Israel is
Jehovah's bride while the church
is the Lamb's bride God said of
Israel. 1 will betroth thee unto me
forever (Hosia 2:19).
God frequently uses marriage to
symbolize His relation to Israel
(Isaiah 62:5). And the
undebatable love of a true
husband, to whom God liken
Himself, is shown, and Israel's
strange, sad. persistent backsliding
is revealed.
The history' of man has been a
history of backslidden, and will
continue to be so. But why should
Israel backslidden seem strange to
us ? Isn't it exactly what we all
know about by personal
experience.
Backsliding is a historical
facet...
Creation of man: (Genesis
1:28). Man was started at the top
but soon he was moving toward the
bottom.
Fall of man: Man went steadily
down hill from the expulsion from
Eden (Genesis 3:23) to the time of
the flood
Human government: (Genesis
8:20) Man went down hill until he
tried to ignore God in exalting
himself ((11:14) and the judgment
of the confusion of tongue's fell
upon him.
Promise to Abraham: (Genesis
12:1) Israel. God's chosen people
went down until they found
themselves at the bottom of the hill
in bondage in Egypt.
Mosaic law given: (Exodus
19:8) Israel during the entire
national history , had its ups. and
downs. Hosea's day pictures it.
The word shows us that until the
end. men will sin. will break God's
heart of love: but a wonderful and
patient God has endured this
through the centuries.
But notice what is happening to
them today. (Hosea 3:5) describes
the glorious future. King, prince,
sacrifice, image, ephod and
teraphim all are then restored in
Christ The Jesus, as well as you
and I has a glorious future.
Thank God for Jesus

Holloween Festival
Before you dress your kids up for
Halloween, you need to know more
about the Halloween Festival
beginning.
Over 1900 years ago Samhaid,
an old Celtic Feast of the Dead,
what we know as Halloween had
its origin. The feast was held
October 31st. the eve of winter.
The name means Hallowed, or
Holy Evening, because it takes
place the day before All Saints
Day . The celts who inhabited
what is now Great Britain. Ireland
and Northern France began their
new year cm November 1st. and
viewed the night before as a time
when the dead could revisit the
living.
In the 9th Century, the church
christianized the tradition by
designating November 1st as the
- roads into our lives and the lives
of our youth...it's time to move on.
That's the way I see it.

Feast of Saints (or Halloween) and
November 2nd as All Saints Day.
Many superstitions and symbols
are connected with Halloween.
The Druids, an order of priests in
ancient Great Britain, believed
that on Halloween ghosts, spirits,
fairies, witches and elves came out
to harm people. They thought the
cats were sacred and believ ed that
cats had once been human beings,
but were changed as a punishment
for evil deeds. From these Druid
beliefs came the present day use of
witches, ghosts and cats.
In the early times in the U.S.
Halloween was an occasion for
(flaying pranks, usually relatively
ha ideas. However, in later years
these “tricks" have become
harmful, destructive and in some
cases fatal. Modern Halloween
tricks have come to include
extensive property damage,
vandalism, drive-by shootings and
even poisoning.
With the prevalence of crime,
disease, abuse of all kinds, and
general insensitivity in our society
today it is time to put satanic
celebrations .and anything
connected to rest. We should not
provide for Satan to ihake more in
the late Grant and Medora Derry. At
an early age, she united with the Ml
Olive Baptist Church, Waelder,
Texas. Throughout her membership,
she was very active in the church,
serving as Sunday School teacher,
president of the Missionary Society,
and a true leader in the community.
Mozella James served as the Dis-
trict President of the LaGrange
Western Landmark Association and
District Missionary of the Guadalupe
District Association (Women's De-
partment).
Mozella united in Holy Matrimony
to Harvey Brownlow. To this union,
three children were born. Dorothy
Page of Memphis, Tennessee,
Harvey Brownlow, Jr. of Houston,
Texas and Bamie Hollingsworth, of
San Antonio, Texas.
After moving to San Antonio, she
united with the West End Baptist
Church under the leadership of Rev.
G P. Taylor.
She served fidthfiilly until her health
began to fail.
Mozella entered into eternal rest on
Wednesday, October9,1996at2:45
