Investigation continues in the shooting death
of Freddie Hubbard by security guard
An investigation is continuing into
the shooting death of Freddie
Hubbard of San Antonio, * by a
security guard last month.
Hubbard was shot to death while
his mother, Gloria Hazel Bean,
watched in horror at the Meadowview
Apartment in South Houston.
Mrs. Bean said they were celebrat-
ing her granddaughter's 12th birth-
day when a security guard knocked
on the door.
"Freddie was playing gospel music
and singing to me," Mrs. Bean said.
"There were people inside, so Freddie
and I went out side to see what the
security guard wanted. He said the
music was too load and Freddie said,
"okay. 111 turn it down. The security
guard then took a couple of steps
back mid fired three times, striking
Freddie in the stomach. Jie fell to the
ground and his wife rushed to side
and raised his head. Freddie told his
daughter, who had come outside,
happy birthday and then he took his
last breath."
The day before that fatal shooting,
Mrs. Bean said that police were
called to the apartment because the
security guard had shot at someone.
And had shot in the air several times.
Mrs. Bean said the guard was trigger
happy and shot her son for no appar-
ent reason.
She said Hubbard was driving trucks

Convicted of
$20,000 theft
Willie B. Hardy, the owner of
Hardy's Mortuary, was sentenced to
four years in prison. Hardy was
convicted of theft over $20,000 on
April 26.
Hardy’s trouble began last year
when he obtained loans to bury
people who where not dead and
relatives of alleged deceased person
did not apply for loan.
At press time Register was unable
to contact the court to obtain the
court testimony in this case. The
court did say that Hardy received a
four year sentenced, but did not
mention anything about parole. It
appears then, that Hardy, who has
had several brushes with the law,
will be heading to Huntsville.
Register called the Hardy's Mortu-
ary but employes were unaware of
Hardy's sentencing.
Mr. Hardy in trouble again. Four
year prison term.
