Check the facts, folks, check the facts!
Getting bits and pieces of the facts,
can be very misleading.
When dealing in a public business.
there will be events that are beyond
the owners control. This was thecase
last week with Rudy Green, the owner
of PrimeTime, a club located on W.
W. White Rd. and Rigsby. The club
is surrounded by Pizza Hut, Handy
Andy and Sonic Hamburgers.
Rudy has been a victim of poor
mediareporting (television) and other
events beyond his control.
Three thugs forced a man out of his
car on Badger and Bundy. The trio
then shot a man in the 4400 block of
Sea Breeze. The criminals then
droved the stolen car onto the Handy
Andy parking lot and attempted to
break into a parked car.
The owner of the car, Cecil Johnson,
20. returned to his car and the trio
began firing at him. Johnson was hit
four times and he ran for help. The
injured ipflu colHupsccl in front
Prime Time Nile Club and the sus-
pects fled.
Police chased the suspects and
caught one of them as he fled into the
Rigsby Apartments. The other two
escaped.
The next time on television, a sta-
tion showed a picture of the Prime
Time sign, giving the impression
that the unfortunate incident hap-
pened at that place of business.
Green is quite concerned because a
year or so ago, a man ran through the
parking lot and was chased by gun-
men. White gunmen were shooting
at the fleeing man, a security guard
was shot. Television Filmed the sign
but did not fully explain that the
incident did not involve Green's
place of business.
"1 have six security guards who are
in and out of the club and onto the
parking lot all during the
night, "Green explained.
"If something happens in the club,
we ll take the blame for it," Green
emphasized. "But don't put us down,
when we are innocent. This type of
reporting makes people believe that
Green also pointed out that a shoot-
ing happened on the northside at a
club a ic * weeks ago, but Uic> did
not mention the name of the club.
"All I am saying, treat all of us the
same," Green noted.
Many times we go off half
cocked, you know, with a little bit of
(ruth. And we deal in hearsay and not
knowing the facts in any particual
situation. Before we make a judge-
ment about a certain thing, let's get
all the facts and understand the case
fully before we spread hurtful and
damaging information.

Group pushes for Citizens Review Board
A consortium of local civil rights
organizations is calling on the City
Council to supportaCivilian Review
Board with full subpoena/contempt
power with an independent
investigator. They are also calling
on the council to reject contributions
from the San Antonio Police
Officers’ Association.
Frontline 2000, the ACLU, the Civil
Rights Litigation Center, and other
organizations in San Antonio made
these demands in a press conference
following the sentencing of the two
policemen convicted of violating
Rodney King’s civil rights.
The organizations say that the City
is attempting to negotiate an
agreement with the SAPOA calling
for one civilian to sit on a review
board with seven police officers to
hear police abuse cases. They say
that goesagainst the Police Advisory
Committee Report of December 7,
1992.
“We are not surprised that the City
Manager has ignored the people who
testified at a Public Hearing on Police
Abuse. Where is the tape of that
public hearing and why has Council
not heard it? The SAPOA has given
political contributions to council
people and at the same time is
negotiating to exclude citizens from
the process,” the organizations stated
“They are negotiating to violate our
First Amendment rights by using lie
detectors and threats of perjury
against police abuse victims.
Frontline 2000, the ACLU, the Civil
Rights Litigation Center, and other
organizations in San Antonio are also
demanding that the Justice
Department appeal the sentences
given to the the police officers

convicted of violating motorist
Rodney King’s civil rights.
Calling the sentence ‘preverted,*
the organizations charged, “Judge
Davies has again proven that justices
is rare when minorities are abused by
police officers. Not only were the
officers given light sentences, but
Judge Davies went on to new heights
of cruelty and bigotry, by making
racist statements which ridiculously
blame Rodney King for brutal,
vicious attack by Los Angeles police
officers.’’_
The organization also said that the
sentence is illegal because federal
guidelines call for 5-8 years to be
given. TheyarecallingfortheJustice
Department to appeal the sentence
immediately and to seek a Writ of
Mandumus that will force Judge
Davies to comply with the law.
Letters of protest are also being
sent to congressmen asking for an
investigation of Judge Davies, who
was appointed by President Ronald
Reagan.
If it is found that the judge has acted
improperly, he can be impeached.

Eastside resident David Arevalo is
asking the City of San Antonio why
they have failed to move45,000cubic
yards of toxic lead contaminated soil
off the Alamodome site and onto a
licensed landfill.
The Dome Special Projects officers
have responded by saying that the
soil will be buried in a clay pit.
"Texas Water Commission regula-
tions specify stringent measures be
used if soil is to remain on site.
Though the contractors plans to meet
those requirements, Eastside resi-
dents are still uneasy," Arevalo said.
Arevalo questioned what guaran-
tees residents would have that the
toxic soil would be contained after it

It was like a scene from the willd-
wild west with murders and shootings
in the Alamo City.
A 27 year old man was killed early
Saturday as he fled from another
man in the East Terrace Homes.
Troy King, of the 4600 block of
Clark Avenue, was shot seven times
in the upper body and arms, police
said.
Witnesses told police that suspect
confronted King about 1:40 a.m. on
Rosary Street, just north of Gold-
smith.
The witnesses said the armed man
pulled a semiautomatic pistol and
started shooting as King ran south.
The injured man fell, wounded, and
the gunman continued to fire, strik-
ing him several more times.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m.

Citizen wants toxic soil removed
is buried in the neighborhood and
whether such natural forces as land
movement, floods, and wear and tear
would allow the contamination to
enter the city's water sources.
Saying that this is "just as important
as the so-called economic growth for
the Eastside," Arevalo pointed out
that economic issues such as rezoning
and dome parking have taken a back
seat to ecological and health issues.
He also chided Councilwoman
McClendon for being in favor of the
an-site landfill.
Arevalo will hold a meeting to
discuss the issue on Wednesday,
August 18, at the Ray's Mexican
