the big screen thriller “Crimson Tide.”
The movie’s now showing in San
Antonio. And, if you can’t get enough
of David Robinson and Sean Elliot on
the basketball court, take heart and go
see “Forget Paris.” Both players have
cameo roles in the film where they’re
playing for the NBA championship.
David Robinson goes off on Crystal,
who plays an NBA ref, and Elliott

when Crystal needles him about being
tired. Elliot’s retorts that Crystal’s
sister ‘wore him out’.
Brothers getting solid with
Rodman
Some brothers are getting solid with
Dennis Rodman by dying their hair.
One young man told this reporter that
his brother “who is jet black” had dyed
his hair orange. He, who’s on the red
side, plans on going blue or purple.
Just to let Rodman know they think
he’s great.
Rappers get married, get
sentenced
Tapuc Shakur, already in prison, just
go married, and rapper Flavor Fav of
Public Enemy just got three months in
jail for firing a gun at his neighbor.
Not whatbe’d ask for his birthday, I’m
sure, but it beats what he would have
gotten bad he been tried on the original
charge of attempted murder. The
charges stem from a November 1993
altercation between Flavor and a
neighbor in his apartment building.
Happy Birthday

Panther: the movie
you should have seen
Panther is a movie that every Black
man and woman should see.
However, the movie will probably
slip intooblivion with little notice by
the very people affected most by that
era—Black people. But, that’s how
we are. If you’re living the life and
drawing the big paycheck, it’s real
easy to think that you got where you
were without the benefit of anyone’s
blood, tears, and prayers.
It is unfortunate that so many Blacks
are so ignorant of the Black Panthers
and were so quick to believe only
what they read in the newspapers
and saw on the TV, much of it, as the
Freedom of Information laws have
caused documents to be released will
show, fed to the media by freedom
loving Black folks hater J. Edgar
Hoover.
The movie traces the origins of the
Panthers, their positive impact in the
Black community, their loss of focus,
and the behind the scenes
machinations by the FBI to destroy
their credibility and the B lack Panther
Party.
The saddest moments in the movie
are the announcement on the radio of
the death of Dr. Martin Luther King
and the despair it wrought in
everyone—it was like a death of hope,
even to those who opposed his
methods, and the callous planning
by the FBI and the -Mafia, with a
Black man chairing the FBI
Committee, to flood the Black
community with drugs to “neutralize”
them. The movie makes the point at
the end that “in 1970, there were
300,000 addicts. Yesterday, there
were 3 million.”
In case, you were one of those
negroes who did not make yourself
aware in the 70’s, the Black Panther
Party for Self-Defense was founded
in response to police brutality against
Blacks. They started out by learning
the laws of the state of California and
the U. S. Constitution. They also
, took down badge numbers of police
officers who got out of line. At the
time of their formation, it was legal
in the state of California to carry a
loaded weapon. However, under then
Gov. Reagan, laws were passed that
made it illegal.
Panther makes a strong social
commentary on the federal
government in the late 60's and early
70’s. And it’s uncomfortable for
those of us who want to believe that
the government does only good.
But it is a movie that will put all of
your emotions into play, from sadness
to anger to a sense of defeat when it
comes to trying to mold our own
destiny.
It's gone now. But if it comes back
to the dollar movie, it's a dollar you
ought to spend.
