When 1 am wrong, I’ll be the first
to admit it.....1 was wrong as rain
when I reported they Ux>k die light
from champion Fvander Holy tie Id
After looking at the film on HBO,
twice alter recording it. I saw It From
a better vantage point., in my
house.....and up close enough to see
dial Moorer was die better fighter
over twelve rounds. I Ic had Fvander
in bad shape as they dosed the show
in the find few rounds. Yeah, he
went down, but was never hurt all
through the bout he almost killed
liolyficld with all those punches,
and you could see that Fvander got
the worst of it.
Me had said that Fvander had been
in some grueling, tough, knock-
down, and drag out fights over the
past two years...it showed and diey
say he had a should' i and heart
problem while fighting those twelve
rounds against die much younger
Michael Mixirer.
You did see that Moorer had no
chin, and he belter pray that he does
not have to fight the Riddick Bowe
diat liolyficld fought last year. Now
if the “Belly Hog Bowe” shows up at
his usual pounds, he will have a
chance.
He had better fight Fennox Lewis
to unify the crown and get a gixxl
payday as, mark dm, he won t be
around long, lie will get in some
kind of trouble sooner or later.
I see him gening his next KO win
over that crazy trainer he has...no
one should have to hear that crap he
was talking. Ali would have knocked
him out. Tyson fired him, so stay
tuned to see the outcome of that
scene.
Hats off to “Young Nuts” Mike
Moorer, my former teammate at
Kronk Boxing Club over those long,
cold Detroit winters from 19X8-
1990....we are asked, “will Fvander
liolyficld fight again?” Give him
about six months, and he will be
right hack in the ring again, saying
he was bored without the spotlight ol
being a world class attraction...plus
the money.
They say he earned over a hundred
million in his ten year career, that it
true, hut in boxing, it’s not what die
media reports you earn, but the
amount die fighter gets to keep. ()ther
than Sugar Ray Leonard, I don’t
know of any lighter who kept the
biggest portion of their purses.
IRS, managers, trainers, promoters,
and others gel their chunks, and any
lighter who gets to keep over SO
percent is lucky, and that is why
there are so many comebacks.
Insiders tell me that TSU’s new
ftxitball coach has hired two white
coaches that were fired
elsewhere.....that g<x*s into die feature
I am building on the current TSIJ
coaching situation related to the
changes made by the new
administration. Research is till going
on....stay tuned.

The Way I See It
by Henrietta Griffin
From the prison house to the
White House....enter Nelson
Mandela, the new president of
South Africa. I’hough the pathway
was paved w ith innocent blood and
strewn widi bodies of the young
and the old. The Blacks of South
Africa have "overcome.”
To those of us who watched on
our television screens as the elderly
were helped to the polls, some on
stretchers, some assisted by the aid
of others to cast their vote for the
very first time in their lives.
We fought back the tears as we
rejoiced with them in exercising a
basic right—the right to vole—that
we in America often take for
granted. This is just the beginning
for South Africa; an enormous task
awaits Mr. Mandela and the African
people as they explore new
territories :uid begin to try to undo
and reverse some of the damage
done by years of apartheid and cruel
racism.
“We Shall Overcome” never rang
truer than at this particular time in
history . We in America can truly
identify with the South African
Black people and the grueling task
that lies ahead.
Centuries after the abolition of
slaver, we are still experiencing
racism and discrimination; we have
not fully overcome even yet. The
sad fact is gross inadequacies in
recognizing and taking advantage
of our available resources and
opportunities that never come easy.
Our hearts and our prayers should
go out for M r. (President) Mandela
for the progress he and his people
have made, to nurture hope is to
keep dreams alive.
That's the way I see it
