CRIME TIP
Crime Tips
Burglary Prevention
Of all the major criminal offenses,
residential burglary is probably the
I most unsettling to the resident. A
burglary is reported every 15 seconds
■and one occurs every eight seconds.
"Hie average loss from a single home
’burglary is approximately $535, but
-even then all losses are not included
in'lhe police reports. Even though
•there has been a marked decline in
home burglary rates, it continues to
be a serious problem. \
About 85 percent of residential Bur-
glaries are carried out by youthful
amateurs, mostly males under 25
years of age with normal intelligence.
Mule education and a record of ju-
jenile delinquency. These burglars
flevote relatively little lime to ad-
fiance planning and tend to work
where the opportunity presents itself.
Statistics tell
m
ys that the criminal will almost al-
ways go for the easiest target, which
'ineans that the more a homeowner
less chance he has of becoming a
target The items listed below wiji
assist you in "target-hardening" your
home.
♦Use exterior lighting to illuminate
the exterior If your home *Limit the
access to your property by using
fencing, shrubs, etc. *A11 exterior
doors should be of solid-core or metal
construction at least 1 1/8" in thick-
ness *AU exterior doors should be
fitted with a deadbolt locking device
with a 1" to 3" screws *AI1 exterior
doors should be equipped with a 190
degree peephole *A1I windows
should be equipped with secondary
locking devices *Garage doors
should always be locked and closed
♦Trees and shrubs should be trimmed
so as not to block view or act as
"natural ladders" ♦ Patio doors should
be secured so that cannot be
slid or lifted from track *Look into
purchasing or leasing a residential
alarm system that is monitored ♦Lock
all doors and windows each and
everytime that you leave your home
♦Markall portable and valuable items
with your Driver's License Number
and make an inventory of private
property by Name, Model and Serial
Number.
The above listed items are but a few
of the things that we can and must do
to bring down the burglary rate on
the east side. You can get a free home
security inspection by calling 207-
7566 and also possible gel a 5%
deduction on your homeowners in-
surance.
Yours faithfully

In Loving Memory of
, Mrs.Willie Mae Bell
Sunrise: November 2,1939 - Sunset: August 10,1998
August 10, 1998 you were
summoned to appear in the heavenly
courts. No jury or a court reporter
was needed. God beckoned, and you
quietly slept away.
Three hundred and sixty-five days,
eight thousand seven hundred and
sixty hours has rolled into eternity
and yet is seems as though it was
yesterday.
We miss that radiant smile, that
spark of encouragement that radiated
through the phone, those words of
wisdom, the daily phone calls and the
late night talks.
As poignant as it may seem, in time
we shall be able to get through these dark and gloomy days. Someone said
that time heals all wounds. Some of us had the opportunity to be warned of
this inevitable time which shortly came to pass. No one had any
imagination beyond our wildest dreams, that it would be so hard to let go
of such a wonderful wife, loving mother, irreplaceable daughter,
unchangeable sister, extraordinary aunt, loving sister-in-law, devoted
friend, and a dedicated church worker, but we have this one assurance, we
shall see you on the other side.
Your loving husband,
James L. Bell, and Family
