In rcl<‘hration of Fiesta '88, and their own 14th
anniversary, Le Cercle d"Amies members and their
spouses gathered at the plush riverfront
condominium home of Dr. and Mrs. Charles
Thurston to enjoy a delightful evening --viewing the
King s River Parade, via the balcony overlooking
the river, or TV; together with light-hearted
'conversation, sipping, dipping and otherwise
devouring a whole raft of delectables of both the hot
and spiev. and frosty cold and sparkling varieties.
Also, as a verv special and creative treat from the
hostess, lor each member and guest, there was a
uailv colored and lie-ribboned '"picnic sack inside
of which there v»ns a buttery crossaint filled with
chicken salad, pickle chips, melt-in-your-mouth
chefse wafer- and a sinfully rich but divinely de-
licious double chocolate llrownie. And. as an added
bonus, when all of the delectables were consumed,
the ornate ribbon holders, pins attached, were later
worn as corsages, and then kept as lovely souvenirs
of the occasion, along with a storehouse of happy
memories, of which they have more than a few!
Friday evening found the f riends, et al, all decked
out ala Texas Western from head to toe, pl-ying
hosts to approximately, three hundred of their
mutual frignds, invited to help them celebrate Fiesta
and their 14th birthday al their “Let's Go Western
dancing party, held in Holy Redeemer Hall.
Members of the club and their husbands alternated
at greeting their guests as they approached the
entrance to the spacious part room which was
arlislicaiiy and lavishly decorated from “stem to
stern" if' the Western ami Fiesta motifs.
Long red and while check-topped tables, arrange
for the seating of guests, on either side of the
spacious dance floor, were each centered wi th a
white W estern hat. serpentine runners and further
adorned with brightly colored and glittered boots,
hats, cacti, et cetera; nnd on each festive board there
were hot peanuts on which to munch while sipping,
chatting or toc-tapping.
The walls were also aglow with lavishly glittered
W estern and F iesta memorabilia, including colorful
prints of bucking bronco riders, rodeo performers,
cowboys and cowgirls, and other action prints,
vividly depicting the party theme.
Other decoration focul points were the colorful,
artistic 16-foot banner with the name of the club - Le
Cercle d'Amies in heavtt/wIverVuqfulhned lettering;
both were the handwork of Friend Clarice, club
president and general chair, whose multi-talents
and expertise in the area of arts and design are
widely recognized. F'riend Marie Mervin was
chairperson in charge of decorations and designed
most of the wall and table decor. .............
Popular Her jay Ralph Duke kept the party-goers
happy and in a dancing mood throughout the
evening as he spun disc after disc of popular
Western and contemporary hit tunes. Everybody
who wasn't actually on the dance floor, was tapping
their feet shortly before “dinner call" Friend
Clarice introduced the cllub's officers and members
and invited the husbands to stand; also any out-of-
town guests.
Also in her brief remarks, she pointed out to the
guests that the members were celebrating more than
a birthday, but also their delight and happiness at
having their charter member, Dolores (Hubert)
Kelly, who now makes her home in Springfield,
Virginia, with he# family, fly down especially to
celebrate this occsion with her club members. And
lastly, because the lovely engraved gold cirlces that
grace the F'riends necks and presented to the charter
members by their husbands,- thirteen years ago. the
club's first anniversary dance, with a diamond being
added each succeeding year, has now been
completely filled; and for that, 'hey are both proud
and happy!
-In .keeping with the theme, the Friends served a
delectable Western dinner with all the trimmings,
with frosty refreshments being enjoyed throughout
the party, while dancing the night away.
