KEEP FAITH WITH ABSENT
SOLDIERS AND SAILORS
One of the most important
elections ever held in Texas is
set for May 24, 1919. At this
election will be decided by the
voters of the state the question
of adoption or rejection of four
amendments to the Constitu-
tion. These proposed amend-
ments involve radical changes
in our organic law and touch at
some point the vital interests of
every citizen of Texas. The
politicians through the instru-
mentality of the Legislature,
fixed the date of the election.
We have now approximately
fifty thousand soldiers and sail-
ors still in the service; a ma-
jority of the 36th and 90th di-
visions are composed of Texas
men, besides members of num-
berless other organizations of
the Army and Navy.
These men cannot possibly
return in time to vote May 24.
The Legislature and the poli-
ticians knew all this when the
dale was fixed for holding the
election. We have anaurarice
that all the men will be home
by the middle of September.
