Hunnam-Goebel
Double ring ceremony unites couple
A double ring ceremony united Laura Lea Hunnam and Robert
Kevin Goebel in marriage Saturday, November 28 at four o’clock in
the afternoon. Monsignor Henry Herbst performed the sacrament in
St. Michael’s Catholic Church.
Miss Hunnam is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ranny Hunnam of
Cuero. Parents of the groom are Mr. and Mrs. Robert D. Goebel, also
of Cuero.
Several white wicker baskets filled with an array of assorted pink
and white flowers accented with greenery decorated the church.
Organist Mary Prause played several selections. Among them were
Lara’s Theme, Ode to Joy, If, Let It Be Me and Ice Castles. Soloist
and guitarist Bobby Jones sang, A Long Line of Love and Nobody
Loves Me Like You Do. Flutist Madlyn Segari played Stuck on You.
Presented for marriage by her mother and father, the bride selected
a formal gown of white matte taffeta, designed by Jena. The basque
bodice, accented with .alencon lace, bridal pearls and crystal loops,
featured a sabrina neckline. Short puffed sleeves were designed with
slight shirring in the center and adorned with beaded alencon lace.
Miss Hunnam’s graceful, flowing skirt extended to a hemline of lace,
sweeping into a chapel-length train. At the back waistline a large bow
complemented the gown. Completing the bride’s attire were matching
gauntlets trimmed with bows.
An exquisite white wreath of alencon lace, pearl stems, satin
blossoms and crystals formed a slight vee on the bride’s forehead, ex-
tending to a ruffled, rolled edge pouf which held her two-tiered finger-
tip veil of silk illusion.
Miss Hunnam wore peral earrings, belonging to her mother; dia-
mond earrings, a gift from the groom; and a diamond necklace,
“something borrowed” from her sister-in-law.
The bride carried a crescent-shaped bouquet centered with pink and
white rubrum lilies, alstromeria, baby’s breath, stepanotis, eucalyptus
and greenery.
Mrs. Keith Hunnam, sister-in-law of the bride, attended as matron
of honor. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Dwayne Noack and Kimberly Dietze
and Brenda Styra.
Little Lacy Lynn Biehunko made a charming picture, walking down
the aisle as flower girl. She was attired in a white matte taffeta frock
styled with short puffed sleeves and a large bow sash at the back waist.
Her full skirt was worn at ballerina length.
Escorting her was Brian Patrick Polzin who served as ringbearer.
Both are cousins of the bride.
Attendants wore formal gowns of emerald green iridescent taffeta.
Basque bodices were slightly shirred and held short, puffed sleeves.
Bodice backs were accented with a bow at the hipline. Full, flowing
skirts were worn at ballerina length. They carried smaller bouquets,
identical to the bouquet of the bride.
Keith Goebel served his brother as best man. Groomsmen were
Keith Hunnam of Cuero, brother of the bride; Bart Goebel of Hunt-
sville, cousin of the groom; and Dwayne Noack of Cuero.
Ushering-guests were Brad Goebel of Huntsville and Troy Mueller
of Louisiana, both cousins of the groom; Kirk Laging of Cuero,
cousin of the bride; B. J. Drehr of Cuero and David Grafe of
Houston.
Following the wedding ceremony, a reception was held at St.
Mrs. Robert Kevin Goebel
Michael’s Parish Hall. Potted plants and fresh arrangements of pink
and white flowers were scattered throughout the hall. Serving tables
were draped with pink cloths and overlaid with white lace cloths.
Members of the house party were Mrs. Bryan Boehl, Mrs. Brian
Carson, Mrs. Bruce Gohmert and Misses Darlene Bomba, Barbara
Gawlik and Shelly Goebel.
Honored guests were the grandparents of the couple; Mr. and Mrs.
Louis F. Wishert and Mrs. and Mrs. Henry H. Hunnam, grand-
parents of the bride; and Mr. and Mrs. Victor Goebel and Mrs. Elmer
Krueger, grandparents of the groom. All are residents of Cuero.
Following wedding travel, the couple will reside in Cuero.
The bride is a 1984 graduate of Cuero High School and is presently
emplpyed at Lu-Val’s Fashions.
A 1980 graduate of Cuero High School and a 1985 graduate of
Southwest Texas University with a BBA degree in finance, the groom
is associated with First Republic Bank oT Victoria as a credit analyst.
The parents of the groom hosted the rehearsal dinner at the Land-
mark Restaurant.

Tree dazzles spectators
It was a thrilling moment for
the more than five hundred spec-
tators when Dot and R. F.
Blackwell stood by the Com-
munity Christmas tree Christmas
tree Thursday night as the switch
was thrown. A gasp arose from
the rapt crowd as the forty foot
tree, topped by a huge star, was
illuminated. Those gazing at the
dazzling tree with the shimmering
lights had a moment’s reflection
to remember their loved ones. A
luminaria through history. Tod-
dlers and youngsters thronged
through the crowd to have front
row seats. Many folks brought
lawn chairs. A full moon watched
over the scene. A few tears were
shed and goose bumps were rais-
ed. Those were astonishing
moments - the fact that the town
could all pull together and make
their lights shine so the dream of
a civic center could come true.
The Pilot Club, the Board of
Directors of the Civic Center, the
church choirs, all those who
thought up the project and set up
the ceremony should be highly
complimented. But when it gets
down to basics it’s YOU who
contributed to the dream. It’s
YOUR tree and YOUR dream.
Tree lighting has been of
primary importance to everyone
of us but we have another “big-
gie” community project coming
up on December 13 - the
Christmas Home Tour - spon-
sored by the Chamber. It will be
another dazzler!
On Thanksgiving Day, the
family of 99-year old Mrs. Elfle
Wendel gathered together at the
Meyersville school cafeteria for a
bounteous dinner. Some big din-
ner! There were 51 relatives pre-
sent to celebrate. Imagine that!
Mrs. Wendel’s children, Allen,
Alonza and Cleo Wendel and
Ruth Nagel and their spouses,
along with 20 grandchildren and
22 great-grandchildren and 1
great-great-grandchild. Eleven of
the large family were unable to
attend. A shower was being given
for one great-grandson and
another grandson was observing
his birthday. Elfie knows she has
a lot to be thankful for - especial-
ly her devoted family. She will be
100 in January, God willing.
Jed, JoFran and Justin
DeLeon of Marquez spent
Thanksgiving in the home of
Dorothy and Robert E. Deleon,
Tracee and Michele. Highlights
of the weekend were a trip to
Seguin to see our famed Gobblers
play and WIN and Jed bagged a
big ten pointer. Tracee had
already snagged an eight pointer
opening day of the season.
Burden reunion
on Thanksgiving
A Thanksgiving family reunion
was held at the home of Mrs.
Laura Burden on turkey day.
Fifty-three family members
were present to partake of the
delicious turkey dinner.
Mrs. Paulette Slade of Dallas
was presented with a gift for
traveling the greatest distance to
attend. Mrs. Martho Williams of
Victoria received the gift for the
oldest family member present.
