Fake $20 bills found in Cuero
Three counterfeit $20 bills were
discovered here last week, Cuero
Police Sergeant Chuck Wilson said
T uesday.
The bills were discovered bv
employees of Farmers State Bank
and Trust and have been turned-in
to the U S. Department of Treasury
for investigation, Wilson said.
He warned area businesses to be
warv of fake bills and to inspect
closely any S20 bill that thev come
across.
“the counterfeits look pretty
good to the untrained eye.” Wilson
said. “But close inspection will
show that the paper the takes are
printed on doesn't have the same
fiber as regular bills."

County gets
funds for
lateral roads
AUSTIN- State Treasurer Ann
Richards has sent a check totaling
$27,509 to DeWitt County for road
construction and maintenance.
The treasurer each year
distributes to Texas’ 254 counties
money appropriated by the
Legislature for the Lateral Road
Program.
The grants may be used by coun-
ties for the purchase of right-of-way
and for construction and
maintenance of lateral roads, farm
to-market roads or state highways.
The money is allocated to each
county under a formula based on
the county’s area, rural population
and lateral road mileage, Richards
said.
Dietze named
coordinator
for Mauro
campaign
AUSTIN- Errol John Diet/e of
Cuero has been named DeWitt
County coordinator for the re-
election campaign of Texas Land
Commissioner Garry Mauro.
Mauro announced today that his
re-election campaign had recruited
county coordinators in all 254 coun-
ties in TeXas.
“1 have never been one to believe
that a candidate can rely solely on
television commercials to win an
election It takes people working
hard for vou to win and 1 have the,
people," he said, "from Texarkana
to Terlingua, from Dalhart to Don-
na. and even in Loving County,
with only 6" registered voters, we
have county coordinators who are
doing the grassroots work that it
lakes to win an election."
"Our coodinators are more than
figureheads, they are the backbone
of my re-election campaign They
are putting up over 300,000 signs,
mailing over 50,000 postcards to
their friends, walking door to door
to drop over 400.000 tabloids, and
they are raising enough monev
locally to purchase newspaper and
radio advertising.” Mauro said
