Ordinary cTime
6^ <J)avid
It is good to have time for celebration, for birthdays and
anniversarys and the like. Recently we celebrated the Christmas
season with all its special activities. But now we get back to
ordinary time and our ordinary routine. We live out our usual
schedule and we should make our service to God to be part of that
daily routine. We must love and serve God not only at special times
but every day.
Sometimes it takes only a word, just a simple word from God to
change our lives. After hearing only his name called, Samuel was
changed forever by the message of God. When he realized that it
was God calling him, he said, "Speak, Lord, for your servant is
listening." That is the ordinary way that we can serve God, by
listening to his word as we join the Church celebration, read the
Scriptures and other good books. So many people listen only to the
voice of the world which leads them away from God. May we like
Samuel say, "Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening," since God
always teaches us the turth and the truth makes us free.
Recently, I saw a teenager whom I call "my first favorite rascal."
She won my neart when she was about six years old. i had brought
a bag of candy kisses to her and her sister for Christmas. As I sat
down to visit with the family, she crawled up on ny lap and said," I
want the real kind." That is what Jesus wants from us, the real kind
of love and service, and He wants it not only at special times, but in
our ordinary daily service to Him. Serving God now and then is not
enough. It should be our everyday way of living.
