How Good Is Texas's Education System Harper voi. Fire Dept. Harper had a YOuth sodai for 7th
As of this day, the Harper VFD will no longer provide fire or Emergency Medical Services
to the community. Due to the lack of active trained membership and the state of the
obsolete equipment, the Department has no choice but to close the doors. To report
fires or to call for EMS dial 911 and Fredericksburg VFD, Tierra Linda VFD or Doss VFD
or Gillespie County EMS will respond.
Now that I have got you attention, please read on. The Statement above is not at this
time fact, however the day is getting closer and closer that It Will be. Last Tuesday night
April 13 the VFD had it's monthly business meeting with 14 members in attendence. Out
of those 14 members only 3 were under the. age of 40. The average age was 55 years.
My point is that the Harper VFD needs young blood, without it, it will not survive!!!!
Within the next few days the Harper VFD will take delivery of a new Tanker/Pumper.
Monies from the Lower Colorado River Authority and the community as well as a loan
from Security State Bank has made this possible* This will be the first new fire fighting
vehicle that has been purchased since 1972, at a cost of $55,000. Sure will be a big
waste of money if we don't have anyone to operate it.
All I ask of those younger and more sound of body citizens of the community, PLEASE
consider joining the Harper VFD and continue an organization that has provided fire
protection since 1940 and Emergency Medial Services since 1971. Remember that
the title of this article IS closer to reality than you may think. Monitary donations are
always needed, but without people, young people, the money won't do a thing.
