The State Department of Agri-
culture has recently issued a most
interesting and valuable bulletin
entitled “Pecans and Other Nats.”
* K1 TT *5' 7 . T it; W r •.
The bulletin gives explicit and use-
ful information concerning pecan
culture, transplanting, budding,
grafting, top-working and market-
ing pecans, besides discussing wal-
nut culture in Southwest Texas.
The introduction is as follows:
“What cists little is lightly
esteemed and attracts but little
attention. The interest in our
native trees is but another illustra-
tion of this fact. The Texas pecan
has been treated like the other
natural resources of the state—ex-
ploited, wasted, destroyed until
some people are beginning to feel
alarmed at the outcome. Our
fertile lands have been robbed of
their productivity by the one-crop
system; our forests have been cut
down for the best timber and no
provision made for future supply;
the pecan has fallen before the ax
with its fellows—the elm, the ash,
the oak in the effort to make way ’ j 5>v-
for more cotton. Thousands upon 1 have now at my shop an expert
thousands of acres of valuable pecan is cleaning and pressing clothes;
