Heritage Quilt Contest Set
As part of the celebration of the
150th birthday of Texas, the Alto
Sesauicentennial Committee is
going to put together a quilt depic-
ting the unique heritage of our area.
We know that many of you would
like to take part in this project. We
want you to start thinking now
about designing an original quilt
block representing some part of the
heritage of our area. There will be
a special category for their judging
in the 1985 Alto Country Fair The
best 30 blocks will be chosen at that
time to be made into our own "Alto
Heritage Quilt.” Blocks will be
judged on originality, beauty, and
workmanship
The subject for your block can be
anything havint! to do with our
unique heritage past or present
Rules are as follows :
1. Each block entered must be
constructed from cotton or cotton
blend, closely woven fabric (No
knits will be accepted i
2. Each block must measure 121.'
inches by 121 - inches
3. The subject must be something
connected with our immediate
area.
4 Blocks may be pieced or ap-
pliqued
Some possibilities might be: Davey
Crockett and his Tennessee Volun-
teers on their wav to the Alamo.
Forest Hill Plantation, Chief Bowls
and the Cherokee Indians, Mission
San Francisco de Los Tejas, the In-
dian Mounds, an old family home, a
business, a school or church, farms,
or the timber industry.
When the winning entries are put
together, our “Alto Heritage Quilt"
will be exhibited in several
locations during 1986, and then put
on permanent display in the Stella
Hill Memorial Library.
We are looking forward to having
many of you take part in the
creation of this unique community
heirloom If you have any
questions, contact Sharon Ward.
858-4099
5. Blocks may bo signed in an
area that will not intorefere with
the design, as names must be
covered during judging.
6 Blocks must be entered in the
1985 Alto Country Fair (Entry-
blanks may bo picked up at the
Southwestern Electric office in
August.)
7. All w inning entries w ill become
