—John J. Welder has awarded
the contract to the Go'rdon-

Ban Antonio for the erection of

in Victoria. The building is to

—Oh last Friday over 600 tur-
keys were driven into Cuero from
ihe surrounding country and
sold to the Cuero Packing Com-
pany. Ferdinand Albright of
Adder, dlbne marketed 945 head
Pf turkeys on that day.
—Owing to the exceptionally
mdd weather that has prevailed
we notice the rose bushes and
other slmibs blooming all over
town and the large pear trees at
the home of cotinty treasurer W.
Baumgartner are completely
white with blooms, the same as
early spring.

Cynia B. Lticas of Berclair ar-
rived in San Antonio this morn-
ing on a short business trip. A
few days ago Mr. arid Mrs. Lu-
cas and their two children Bert
and Claire passed through this
city on their way back to their
home after spendlfig a few weeks
traveling Jhmug-h the north. A
little story is told of Mr. Lucas
in connection with the naming
of the town of Herein it;, which fie.
founded. There always is diffj$k
enlty in naming a town, as it is
sought to--make the name indi-
cative of the resources and pe-
culiar attributes which the town
may possess. Many names were
proposed by well meaning- friendfe
such as “Cottonia,” because it
lies ill an immense cotton belt!
and “Springville,’’ because the
weather there the natives sav is
always like spring. None of the
names suited Mr. Lucas. One
day he bgd an idea He formed
a name of the two names of Ids
children, Bert and Claire and got
“Berclair.” The name sounded
well and was chosen, represent-
ing a progressive, fast growing
town in Southwest Texas.—San
Antonio Light.
