the opening game for each
team here Friday night, scoring
in each of the final three pe-
riods.
mm In the second quarter, Half-
back John Tate raced 20 yards
... on an end sweep to score and
fullback "David Anders laced
vxj; end for the two points.
In the third sector, Halfback
James Merrill romped 67 yards
for a touchdown.
In the fourth, Fullback David
Anders sliced across from three
yards out to culminate a 65-
yard march and James Merrill
booted the point.
Later, Halfback Ben Hooks
ran 14 yards to score and Mer-
rill again made the placement.
David Anders and Joel Rich-
ardson were chosen by their
coaches and team-mates as the
outstanding back and lineman
of the week of September 4-10.
David Anders scored a touch-
down and ran over a two point
after a touchdown. David is the
son of Mr, & Mrs. Joe Anders,
Joel Richardson was a key
man in the line who came thro-
ugh to play hard nose football.
Joel is the son of Mr. & Mrs.
Robert Richardson.
The coaches stated th»t the
Joel Richardson
choice was hard to make bet
cause many of the boys on the
team performed well. The
whole team showed a lot of de-
termination as they gained
in their abijity to move the ball.
The Lions will face Hardin
this week. Hardin will match
Kountze pound for pound in the
line. Scouts report that they
have two big boys in the back
field that like to run over peo-
ple. The Lions should have the
edge over them in speed and
depth. Hardin is hampered by
its lack of reserve as it only has
16 boys on the team.
All backers of the Lions are
urged to come out and see the
Lions in their first home game.
