NAMES OF HONOR
GRADUATES
According to Superintendent
Roeder and his High School
Faculty, the Honor Graduates
for the year 1940 are as fol-
lows:
Lloyd Gourley, Jr. Valedic-
torian.
George Spencer, Salutatorian.
The Class of 1940 of the
Boerne High School is one of
peculiarities', such as:
1. The largest class in the
history of the school.
2. The HIGHEST average
ever “chalked up” by any Vale-
ictorian.
3. There are more boys in the
class than there are girls.
Congratulations!
SCHOOL PICNIC AND
BARBECUE AT SISTERDALE
The annual Sisterdale track
and field meet and barbecue pic-
nic will be held at the picnic
grounds at Sisterdale, Sunday.
May 5.
The track and field events
will be held in the morning, be-
ginning at 9 a. m. sharp. These
events consist of 50 yd. dash,
100 yd. dash, 220 relay, 440 yd.
relay, high jump, broad jump.,
baseball throw, and chinning-
the-bar. A good number of
schools in the county have al-
ways participated in these ath-
letic events, and have again
been invited to do so.
In the afternoon the schools
will again compete in a softball
tournament. This event has al-
ways proved to be one of the
feature attractions of the day.
Besides the above-mentioned
attractions, there will be many
other events of interest. At
10:30 a. m. the Sisterdale Bad
Club will play a game against a
neighboring team. In addition
there will be tournament riding
open to all contestants, good
music and many other worth-
while attractions. It will be a
daj> full of fun for young and
old.
COMMUNITY CLUB
The first anniversary meet-
ing of the Community Club was
held Monday afternoon at Pros-
pect Ranch, the attractive home
of Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Otto.
Mrs. Wayne Buchanan pre-
sented a very interesting review
of the book “Land Below the
Wind” to about thirty members
and guests. Mesidames L. J.
Gregory and Elmer* Watts pre-
sided at the tea table, from
which sandwiches, cake, coffee
and tea were served. A center-
piece of beautiful spring flowers
was used on the table. The
guests proceeded to the patio
where they ate and enjoyed a
social hour.
During the afternoon a busi-
ness meeting was held for the
purpose of electing officers for
the coming year. The following
are the new officers: Mrs. Fred
Zoeller, President; Mrs. Dodge,
1st. Vice President ; Mrs. M. A.
Shumard Sr. 2nd. Vice Presi-
dent; Mrs. Wm. Philp, 3rd.
Vice-President; Mrs. Guy
Griggs, Secretary and Mrs. Wm.
Williams, Treasurer. An execu-
tive committee will be named
by the new staff at an early
date.
The outgoing officers and com
mittees are grateful for the at-
tendance and cooperation that
has been given them in this,
their first year and know that
in the coming years the enthu-
siasm for the (Club will grow.
The Community Club is a
grand idea for promoting the
hospitality and friendliness of
Boerne so won’t you join us for
the coming meetings?

AGRICULTURAL NOTES
These 4-H Club boys are off
to another good start. Edgar
Schwarz, Jr. reports that his
lamb weighed 64 pounds when
only 60 days old.
Kendalia boys and girls are
all ready to organize their 4-H
Club. They and their parents
are to meet with the County
Agent in Kendalia Wednesday
nite, May 8th at 8:00 to com-
plete the organization.
U. S. Department of Agri-
culture now advises to use
Diphenylamine on screw worm
cases. It kills- worms up to 3
days old. Is used in place of pine
tar oil. Only have to apply it
every three days.
You should see some of the
latest type self-feeders that 4-H
Club boys are using. They make
them theirselves and really get
good results by using them.
The Heard Ranch, Beeville.
reports that their calves weigh
approximately 125 pounds more
are weaned one month earlier;
and bring l^c more per pound
since they have started using
creep feeders. These creep
feeders work well for their
lambs too.
Gus Wollschlaeger doing some
more pasture improvement
work. The chiseled furrows
worked fine during the last
rains. All the water went in the
ground.
Arthur Pfeiffer purchased a
good Hereford bull this week.
Easy on the eyes.
Geo. Biersehwale is showing
some fine colts out of Stick
Handle. On the registration
papers you -see such famous
horses as Cohort, Star Shoot,
Lexington, King Tom and many
others with world records.
Plant lice, flea beetles! and
other insects doing similar
damage can be controlled by
using Rotenone — a NON
POISONOUS insecticide.
PARENT-TEACHERS
MEETING
The regular meeting of the
Boerne Parent-Teachers Asso-
ciation will be held one week
earlier than usual this month on
May 9th at 3:00 in the Gram-
mar School. Mrs. Malcolm Wil-
liams, district vice-president,
will be here to install the officers
for the ensuing year. The asso-
ciatoin would like to have as
many members present as
possible.
ALZAFAR CAMP TO OPEN
Alzafar Camp on the Guada-
lupe River near Boerne will
officially open Saturday with a
basket picnic at 6 p. m.
Childrens games and races
will be staged at 6:30 p. m.
with prizes to be awarded the
winners. Dancing will begin at f
p. m. The playground and swim
ming pool have been recon-
ditioned.
The Boerne Turn Verein w:;l
hold a prize bowling Saturday
night, Majr 4 and all day Sun-
day, May 5th.
Special and Prize nine and
ten pin events will be held for
both ladies and men.
The Boerne Turn Verc.'n has
added two additional alleys and
now have four splendid alleys.
They have made many more jm-\
provements and now have one of
the most up-to-date bowling
clubs in the State.
Many out of , town bowlers
will be here and all the local
members are urged to be pres-
ent and participate in these
events and help in every way
possible. Boerne can be proud
of the Turner Club and -the
Turners are to be congratu-
lated on their progressiveness.

MORNING COFFEE
On Wednesday morning the
Auxiliary -to the Bruno Phillip
Veterans of Foreign Wars held
a delightful Morning Coffee at
the home of Mrs. Ella Massey.
The rooms were decorated with
Spring flowers and the break-
fast was served buffet style.
Mrs. J. A. Phillip, the Auxiliary
gold star mother poured coffee.
The money is to be used to aid
in hospital work and as a re-
lief fund. Almost forty guests
were present.
