against the Spindle top Engineer-
ing and Construction Corpora-
tion for $75,000.00 in dam-
ages. The trial was by jury. The
case arose out of an incident on

Coe, Sr. presiding, went to
trial Monday, Jan. 13th. The
jury, with George Lisk as fore-
man, returned its verdict at
1:30 p. m. Thursday, Jan. 16th.
By its verdict the jury found
$11,750.00 in damages, but
found no negligence on the part
of the defendant.

vers stated Thursday that the

cause the earth, being cooler,
doesn't furnish enough rising

BUZZ SAW
PAY YOUR POLL TAX YET?
You have just until midnight of January 31st
to pay it in order to vote in this year's election.
The poll tax is a bargain this year,
are a few things you can use it for.
Her*
I. To help determine if Lyndon Johnson a
fellow Texan, will be reelected as President of the
United States. You will have a chance to elect the
leader of the Free World.
2. Sen. Ralph Yarborough wi11 be up for re-
election. He will need an overwhelming margin in this
County if he is to return to Washington.
3. Don Yarborough will be making an attempt
to gain the Texas Governorship. He will be trying
to bring the State Democratic Party so that it will
support the National Party and its program.
4. Lieutenant Governor Preston Smith will be
seeking another term. If you have your poll tax paid,
you can help retire him to the sidelines.
5. Wagoner Carr* will be running for re-
election between attempts to grand-stand in the probe
into the death of President Kennedy.
6. Joe Pool, Congressman at Large, the man who
refused to ride in the parade with President Kennedy
and encouraged the fanatics in Dallas, can be retired
th i s year.
7. State Senator Martin Dies Jr. can be
continued in office where he is making the best State
Senator Hardin County has ever had.
8. Judge H. A. Coe, Sr. will be asking a
chance to continue his distinguished service as
District Judge.
9. R. A. Richardson, District Attorney will
be asking for your vote to continue his drive to
enforce the criminal laws without fear or favor.
10. Dwayne Overstreet, County Attorney,
although he's down in his back, will be up and
runn i ng.
II. Tax Assessor-Col lector Wi11ie Bean will be
making a last ditch stand to keep the tax office in
the hands of the elected Tax Assessor Collector.
12. State Representative Emmett Lack, will
be fighting to hold off George Kirkpatrick, Jr.,
J. C. Hooks, and Henry Donalson. Seems that every-
body wants to go to Austin.
13. Commissioners Frank Payne in Silsbee and
E. E. Gotten in Saratoga will be trying to set records
at eating at the public trough. Frank will be trying
for 34 years - Cotton a little less.
14. The J P's in Kountze, Silsbee and Sour
Lake will have their hats in the rinq.
15. Oh, Yes, the sheriff's race is heating up.
The question is whether the people will let their
sympathy for a man who is so close to death cause
them to vote Whitaker in for another four year term.
Most people say he want serve out his term - he has
already tried to resign - and the County Judge and
Commissioners Court will then pick their man to
enforce the laws. I presume that they do not think
they can elect their choice so have prevailed on
Whitaker to run again.
16. Of course, there-will be City elections,
school elections and wet and dry elections. The
way folks are talking, there will be some more bond
issue elections.
If I've left out anything, its not my fault
At the time this was written Smokey Stover, Stanley
Coe, Earl Wills and other possible candidates had
not made any plans public.
Or, just think, you might want to scratch em
all and write-in your own name.
