BOERNE POST OFFICE
STILL GAINS
April 1940 Receipts show 14 per
cent over April 1939
Receipts of the local Post Of-
fice are still showing a substan-
tial gain according to W G Davis
Postmaster. The month of April
just closed gained 14 per cent
over the corresponding month
last year. Receipts for the month
in 1939 were $591.90 and for the
same period in 1940 the total
sales were $676.19, a net gain of
$84.29.
Mr. Davis wishes to express
his sincere thanks to the pat-
rons of the Office for their loyal
support and says that if this in-
crease in business continues for
the entire year, Boerne will be
.assured a second class rating
instead of third class as at pre-
sent, which will mean much to
citizens of the community in the
way of increased service and effi
ciency.
CAVE WITHOUT A NAME
GETS PUBLICITY FOR
BOERNE
This week’s Texas Parade, a
fine magazine published by the
Texas Good Roads Association
carried a fine well written story
by Moris Hastings illustrated
with fine pictures of the Cave
Without A Name mentioned
Boerne several times. This is
publicity that cannot be bought
and is worth much to the busi-
ness men of Boerne. The two
caves and Edge Falls are enough
to attract all the visitors Boerne
can handle if you will do your
part and help put them over.
TELL US THE NEWS.
JUNIOR- SENIOR BANQUET
The Juniors of Bo“erne High
School played host to the Seniors
by entertaining them with the
annual banquet given at the end
of the school year. The banquet
was held in the Home Economics
Building and proved to be one of
the best ever given a Senior
Class of Boerne High School.
Harold Ranzau, President of
the Junior Class acted as toast-
master, and during the evening,
called on members of the faculty
and various Juniors and Seniors
to make speeches.
After the banquet the Juniors
honored the Seniors with a dance
at Ging Newton’s (where every-
one had a good time.
The Seniors wish to express
their thanks again to the Juniors
for a Swell time, and hope that
next year the/ will have as much
fun and pleasure at their ban-
quet.
GREYHOUNDS BEAT
KERRVILLE
Sunday the Greyhounds mo-
tored to Kerville to play the
strong Kerville Juniors. The
game ‘ was an interesting one
with the Greyhounds coming out
on top. The score was 8 to 1.
Bergmann pitched tight ball for
the Greyhounds, while the Ju-
niors used two pitchers, neither
being very effective. Mukel and
Schneider were the only ones to
collect extra base hits.. Thus far
the Greyhounds have played
fourteen games and out of the
fourteen they have lost only two.
They won second place in a
tournament in Houston and
brought back bronze baseballs.

cussing this program. Mr. E. C.
Martin and Miss Mae Belle
Smith, District Ex tension
Agents, will be present to ex-
plain the program. Notices are
being sent to all Land Use Plan-
ning Committee members, bank-
ers, civic organizations, County
officials and Parent Teachers As
sociations to attend this' meet-
ing. Eligible families of this

ing.
NOW is the time to start to
work on that TRENCH SILO.
Plan to put those feed crops in
safe storage where they will be
available at their BEST when
you need it. Just ask the man
who fed silage— HE will tell you
how good it is.
Kendall County Ranchers, who
are “signed up” on the Range
Program, can save themselves
MONEY if they will just fur-
nish a saddle horse to the range
inspectors when they come to
inspect the range. These range
inspectors are paid by the ran-
chers who take part in the pro-
gram—a percentage of each pay-
ment made goes to pay the salary
of these men. These inspectors
can cover the ground faster on a
horse than on foot.
Start now to feed those
HORSES that you are planning
to enter at the Fair. Show your
product—and it shall be sold.
(He who tooteth not his own
horn—the same shall not be toot-
ed.)
When ever you see a notice of
Land Use Planning Committee
meeting—come in and ATTEND.
These meetings are open to the
public. These committeemen are
always loking for good ideas—

very good attendance. The elec-
tion of oficers was held and Mrs.
M. A. Shumard! was elected pres-

MARINE RECRUITING
With an expected increase in
recruiting activities during the
summer, the U. S. Marine Corps
has enlisted the aid of local post-
masters in order to give inter-
ested young men an opportuni-
ty to submit their applications
for enlistment to recruiting
headquarters, according to infor-
mation from Postmaster W. G.
Davis. Mr. Davis said that he has
been supplied with application
blanks and illustrated pamph-
lets about the Marines, their
organization, and .duties. These
may be obtained by inquiry at
the local Post Office.
Upon receipt of a young man’s
application at the recruiting sta-
tion in Dallas, it is given careful
consideration and if the appli-
cant meets the requirements of
the Marine Corps, he is given a
date upon which to report to the
station for final examination and
enlistment. Newly enlisted Ma-
rines are sent to San Diego, Cal-
ifornia, for training.
The recruiting service as ex-
perienced little difficulty in
attracting an excellent type of
American manhocd into the Ma-
rine Corps, for theirs is a ser-
vice that appeals to many ad-
venturous young men, who like
to travel and lead an active out-
door life. Enlistment standards
have always been high in the
Marines an it has been success-
ful in recent years in building
its organization into what has
ben considered one of the finest
and most efficient military or-
ganizations in the world. The
maintenance of this standard
will be the task of the recruit-
injg officers in accepting new
personel for the enlarged Ma-
rine Corps.

gay costumes, fantastic, comic,
authentic, or ordinary evening

of revelry. This year the well
known Henry Marstead orches-
tra will play. Prizes will be
awarded both for costumes and
entrance prizes.
The ball inaugurated to estab-
lish a Museum School of Art.
The proceeds go toward this end
and also for the maintenance of
a galery for artists in the Villi-
ta. Reservations may be made
for tables at the Witte Museum
but one may attend whether a
table is reserved or not. It will
foe held in the Menger Hotel,
