WAR IS HELL.
“War is hell.”
Ah well!
We pray, “Our Father,
Thy kingdom come.”
Then build our ships
And forge our guns
To kill thy sons;
Our brothers,
Then pray, that Thou wilt well
Direct our shot and shell,
And give us help
In making hell.
“War is hell.”
Ah well!
“Peace on earth”
The angel’s sang.
Ah, Christ, we worship Thee
Mid clang of arms
And battle’s roar,
Where hate and wrath
Shed human gore.
And think we serve Thee well
With cruel shot and deadly
shell
In making hell.
“War is hell.”
Ah well!
“God is love” we say.
To Him we pray
To win the day,
To help us slay—
That we may well
Perform our part
In making hell.
“War is hell.”
Ah well
“Thy will be done on earth,”
Not yet.
Unless the prayers we raise,
God will not change our ways
Man causes all man’s woe.
Man is man’s friend or foe,
His to say, war or no,
His to stop shot and shell,
His to quit making hell.
—David B. Page in Humanity.
President’s Vacation
Omaha Bee: President Willson
has earned a generous vacation,
and the people will be glad if he
takes it. His hands, mind and
heart have been too weighted
with heavy burdens for him to go
through the season with no rest
at all. The country’s solicitude
is deepened by the knowledge of
his none too rugged physique. If
anyone has one criticism to offer
at this time it’s that the president
is prone to do too much himself
and leave too little to. those about
him. To be sure, it is not for any-
one else to obtrude his arbitrary
judgment where the president
must rely on his own wisdom, and
of party affiliations, are habitual-
ly anxious for the personal wel-
fare of their chief executive. So
they would be more than delight-
ed. if President Wilson: should
find it consistent with his official
duties to tarry as long as he feels
inclined in the quietude of the
old New Hampshire hills, with
only the members of his broken
family about him to cheer him
back to vigorous health and re-
newed activity.

Are one of the surest and best investments we
know of. Present values will quadruple after the
railroads commence building to this port, as they
are bound to. Present buyers and owners, who
hold for this increase, will reap a rich reward.
Make an investment now before prices raise, as
they are bound to do. Maps and list of lots for
