REGULATIONS ON SHEEP
SCABIES UNDER NEW LAW
Sheep owners of Texas are in-
terested in the new regulations
for sheep scabies eradication
prepared by the Livestock Sani-
tary Commission, which goes in-
to effect June 1. It has the sig-
nature of governor Neff.
Briefly stated the regulations
are;
All inspections, dippings and
certifications must be made un-i
der the supervision of a repre-
sentative of the Livestock Sani-[
tary Commission of Texas.
Only the lime and sulphur or
nicotine and sulphur dip are rec-
ommended by the commission.
Sheep in a flock with infected
animals shall be considered dis-
eased and be treated as such.j
Picking clean sheep from a dis-
eased flock and shipping them is
strictly prohibited.
Animals must be dipped twice
with from ten to fourteen days’
jbetween dippings, before moving.
If turned in on infected ranges!
| after dipping they must remain j
; under quarantine for 270 days.
None can be removed from such
ranges unless first dipped. If!
removed to clean range the sheep
■will remain under quarantine for
190 days before movement will be;
permitted, unless they are dipped
first.
Sheep with visible symptoms
must be hand tested, and must
remain in the dip'three minutes,)
being completely submerged be-1
fore allowed to get out. Expos-
ed stock must remain in the dip i
one minute.
Show sheep, to remain in the
state for a period of time, must
be dipped as exposed sheep, and
expenses incurred must be paid
by the owner. Railways are re-
quired to keep records of the
shipments of she«p originating
outside of the stAte and special
permission must he given by the
commission for movement of the
sheep across the border other
than by rail. The shipment of
clean sheep into Texas is to be
made with the strict provision
that they are subject to being
dipped at the order of a repre-
sentative of the commission.
Fort Worth, San Angelo and
El Paso are designated as offic-
ial dipping stations, and others
will be designated from time to
time.
The responsibility for the
handling of sheep is placed with
the owner or railroads, and pro-
vides that violation is subject to
punishment.
