Summer has returned!
The cool days and nights
were great but triple digit
temperatures are becoming
the norm as July is slowly
giving away to August.
We still do not have
details of the plan to sell
non potable water at the
convenience center with no
word from City Hall about the
continuing drought situation.
A new face on an old sign
can be seen by travelers along
US 287 north of Electra. Main
Street has a new 'skin’ on
an old sign there welcoming
visitors to Electra. Plans are in
the works by Main Street for
a new set of banners for the
downtown lamp posts.
Classes will begin soon in
Electra and the Cub Scouts are
ready to conduct a scavenger
hunt to collect supplies for
those students who need them
for the coming term. The
Scouts will be going to door
V
Electra
on August 9 and on August 16 The meeting was dedicated
to pick up any donations from to making committee
local residents. The supplies appointments and another
collected will be distributed closed session with no action
through the H.E.L.P. House on a chief of police. How
here. many closed sessions will be
Most notable about the needed to decide which of 12
city commission meeting applicants to interview for the
on Tuesday was the lack position which has been open
of city business discussed.

Letter To The Editor:
There seems to be a ques-
tion about the petition in ref-
erence to terminating the City
Administrator. I just want to
clarify the issue.
The petition with all the
signatures was turned in to
the commission. Commis-
sioner Pam Ward made a
motion to terminate the City
Administrator and it died for
a lack of a second
This petition was to let
the commissioners know the
wishes of the public and had
to be acted on by the commis-
sion, which then consisted of
Pam Ward, Janice Cranford,
Margie Scott and Tom DeL-
izio.
Linda Byrd
To the Editor:
I grew up with guns; ri-
fles, shotguns, pistols.
I’m not afraid of them.
I’m not some Nazi nutcase
about them, but neither am I
a fan of Rosie O’Donnell. If
there’s a rattlesnake in my
yard, I’m not going to to call
animal control and wait for
the snake to hide and bite one
of my pets-or me-until the AC
person gets here: I’m going to
go shoot the snake.
Now, I don’t know about
everyone else, but I find it
somewhat horrifying that
a city commissioner places
more value on where a pro-
spective police chief lives
than on the fact that he carries
a gun and is responsible for
enforcing the law.
Apparently none of these
things are of prime impor-
tance, if they matter at all,
to this commissioner. We
should be used to this kind of
off-the- wall logic from him,
as he’s employed this sort of
'reasoning’ before; but never
before (that I know of) when
it comes to putting a person
who may decide lifeand death
in a position of absolute au-
thority.
If this person is well-
trained, experienced, calm,
fair, knowledgeable of the
law, psychologically healthy
and physically fit, then it
shouldn’t matter if he lives in
a toad hole in my back yard or
an igloo in Alaska.
If he’s not, then it’s irre-
sponsible nonsense to consdi-
er putting him in that position.
