The Sweetwater Woman's Forum met at noon on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012, at JavaJax. The objectives of Woman's
Forum shall be to promote acquaintance and mutual helpfulness among women and their organizations and
to aid in civic and intellectual improvements. The projects will promote the County-City Library, support the
Pioneer Museum and improve the quality of life in Sweetwater by civic improvement projects. New members
are welcome. Woman's Forum meets at noon at JavaJax on the second Tuesday of each month. Officers are
President, Dianne Trent; First Vice President, Karan Bergstrom; Second Vice President, Jana Fry; Secretary,
Dr. Judy Clayton; Treasurer, Janet Setliff; and Parliamentarian, Lana McCain. Show are (from left to right,

The Boosting Engineering Science and Technology
(BEST) Robotics competition is drawing near. A record
number of area teams will competition on Saturday,
Oct. 20, at Texas State Technical College in Sweetwater.
BEST works to inspire students to pursue careers in
engineering, science, technology and math through
participation in a sports-like science — and engineering-
based robotics competition. This year’s theme is Outer
Space, which is sure to spark tons of creative robots.
The public is welcome at PrimeTime this Saturday,
Oct. 13, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to get a look at these
amazing creations during their final practice run before
the head-to-head competition. There are a record 13
area schools participating in the Big Country BEST
Competition hosted by TSTC West Texas this year.
Winners of the Oct. 20, competition will move on to
regionals.
The 2012 participating schools include Clyde High
School, Clyde Junior High, Robert Lee, Roscoe Collegiate,
Highland, Jim Ned, Comanche High, Comanche Junior
High, ATEMS, Sweetwater High School, Sweetwater
Middle School, Rising Star and Gustine.

Jason Blake, a financial advisor with the financial-
services firm Edward Jones in Sweetwater and Sondra
Williams, a branch office administrator, recently attend-
ed an invitation-only training opportunity at the firm's
headquarters in St. Louis.
The three-day Advanced Practice Management Forum
is offered to branch teams throughout the country who
rank among the top third most successful in the firm in
helping clients work toward their long-term financial
goals. Jason Blake and Sondra Williams were among
more than 180 associates, out of more than 12,000,
invited to attend this session.

tors meeting, which took
place on Monday morn-
ing, October 8, 2012.
Ken Becker, the
Executive Director, dis-
cussed several companies
who are already making
a positive dent into local
unemployment numbers.

currently working with the
organization to help plan
the event, which will be
held in Houston.
Regarding oil and gas,
the local TSTC (Texas
State Technical College)
campus is looking at get-
ting involved in the indus-
try by providing short-
term and long-term train-
ing. Representatives with
the college are expected
to attend the November
SEED meeting—set for
November 12—to further
discuss the matter.
