CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ANNUAL BANQUET
Motor Home Specialists is chamber’s Business of the Year

A local business that is a
world leader, a decades-old
volunteer organization that as-
sists needy school children, and
a resident who has volunteered
countless hours to local civic
groups received special recog-
nition awards Thursday night
at the annual Alvarado Cham-
ber of Commerce banquet.
More that 90 people at-
tended the event in the board
room at the Alvarado ISD Ad-
ministration Building.
The meal was catered by
Taqueria Torres Mexican
Restaurant with desserts by
How Sweet It Is bakery, both
of Alvarado. Motivational
speaker and comedian Dr.
Stan Cobb provided the en-
tertainment.
The awards were announced
and presented by three-year
chamber president Jason
Reynolds, who turned the po-
sition over to Alvarado ISD
Assistant Superintendent Ken-
neth Estes at the end of the
meeting.
Business of the Year
Motor Home Specialists,
the No. 1 volume selling mo-
tor home dealer in the world,
was honored as 2013 Busi-
ness of the Year.
To be nominated for this
award, the nominee must
have demonstrated signifi-
cant business stability, com-
mitment to the business
community, community ser-
vice and leadership, Reyn-
olds said.
“This is an honor,” said
MHS General Manager Rob-
ert Brake.
MHS employs more than
90 RV techs, service writers,
sales associates and finance
specialist, Brake said. MHS
spans over 40 acres with 60
more acres of property al-
ready purchased and cur-
rently under construction.
New facilities will include
an indoor showroom, res-
taurant, additional sales and
finance offices and an addi-
tional service facility, he said.
“We love Alvarado and
want to be involved in this
community, this chamber
and help other good causes,”
Brake said.
For the second consecutive
year, MHS supported Cook’s
Children’s Hospital in Fort
Worth by donating $1,000
from every motor home sold
between Oct. l-Dec. 31 to the
hospital. Last year MHS do-
nated $202,000 to Cook’s.
Special Service
Recognition Award
The Alvarado Lions Club
received the Special Service
Recognition Award pre-
sented to a business, organi-
zation, club, governmental
agency, educational institu-
tion or healthcare facility rec-
ognized for a major event or
activity throughout year.
Proceeds from the club’s
annual golf tournament fund
eyeglasses and basic school
supplies for needy children,
club members assist with
routes for Meals-on-Wheels
and assist with the Santa’s
Helpers program.
Club members Clint Davis,
Maribel Diaz, Kenneth Estes,
Chester Juroska, Linda Nee-
ley, Jerry Pritchard and De-
wayne Richters accepted the
award.
Alvaradoan of
the Year Award
Lifelong resident John
Percifield received the Al-
varadoan of the Year Award.
Nominees must have made
an outstanding contribution to
the community and contribut-
ed or volunteered beyond the
call of duty, Reynolds said.
“This person has devoted
his life to our town,” Reyn-
olds said. “He has added to
our community by volunteer-
ing numerous hours in sup-
port of civic groups and ac-
tivities and has helped make
Alvarado the best place to
live and work.”
Percifield’s many volun-
teer responsibilities have
included president of the
Johnson County Histori-
cal Society, president of the
Johnson County Antique
Tractor Club, founding mem-
ber of the Alvarado Chamber
of Commerce and a key play-
er in the celebration of the
100th birthday of the County
Courthouse.
His red fire truck is always
available for the Pioneer and
Old Settlers Reunion parade
and the city’s July 4 parade.
The Percifield family is do-
nating many historical items
for a display that will be in
the lobby of the new Johnson
County Subcourthouse that
is being build next to the Al-
varado Public Library.
Other recognitions
In special recognitions,
chamber board member Cyn-
di Yaeger was presented the
“Energetic Go-Getter Award”
recognizing her tireless effort
in assisting with the monthly
meetings and the banquet.
Reynolds received a plaque
recognizing his three years as
president, during which at-
tendance at monthly meet-
ings grew from 20 to 85 and
membership increased by
35 new members in 2013 to
about 100.
Estes, the new board presi-
dent, told the audience that
the focus for 2014 will be
quality, visibility and growth.
He invited members and
others to a “brainstorming
session” at 7 p.m. Thursday,
Jan. 23, at the AISD Admin-
istration Building.
Board members for 2014
are Estes, Leanna Cowan,
Clint Davis, Jameye Jones,
Tammie Lile, Teressa Parker,
Jerry Pritchard, Jason Reyn-
olds and Cyndi Yaeger.

Child Find
The Alvarado Independent School District provides a
continuum of Special Education programs and services for
eligible children 3-21 years of age.
Students with visual or auditory disabilities are provided
instructional services from birth through 21 years of age.
All eligible students are provided a free, appropriate public
education in the least restrictive environment.
Alvarado ISD’S Child Find Process seeks to locate, assess and
identify all Alvarado children suspected of having a disability.
The Child Find process includes populations of children not
currently enrolled in the Alvarado Public Schools: preschool
children (3 and 4 years of age), home schooled children and
private school students who attend a private school located
within the Alvarado ISD boundaries.
