Building Up America
The wonderful work being done by the soldier troys in the lyjwer
Rid Grande Valiev is bound to have a nation wide effort. It will
send a current of strong patriotism throughout the land that will
bear fruit in millions of home. There will he a greater and deeper
respert for “Old Glory." a more virile effort made to keep the United
State* first of all nations. These boys have discovered the secret of
the old veterans' intense enthusiasm for the Stars and Stripes. They
have also made another discovery which will be of equal importance
to them. They have found tucked away down in the most southerly
portion of this graet domain the wonder spot—the fairy land of the
North American continent. They have seen growing grains, fruits
and v< 2•tables of every clime under the sun; growing in abundance
never before witnessed. They have seen thousands of veritable gar-
den spots, where but a few short years ago the mesquite and cactu*
reigned supreme. They have become convinced that Greely’g advice
to the young men to “Go West" must now be changed to "Go South.**
TYiis is the land of opportunity for the rich and floor alike. They are
in the richest part of the United States from the standpoint or soil
and climate, and what is of much importance, the ground they now
tread 1s destined in the near future to be the great highway of com
merre between their own country and the Mexican fields of untold
wealth. They are here to maintain the dignity and sovereii
the United States. Many of them will remain to rise to weal
happiness by taking advantage of the resources natur^ has so boun-
teously stored away in this comer of our fair land apparently for
the special benefit of this .generation. This decade has called for
the service qf these men and it looks a» though providence at the
same time Aas prepared the reward.
