Local Resident
wins award
‘Myra rRo(en
Local resident and busi-
ness owner, Myra Rolen
received top honors this
past weekend at The Acad-
emy of Western Artists
Awards in Irving, TX
where she was named Pure
Country Female Artists of
the Year. She was also
nominated for Pure Coun-
try Song of the Year with a
song off of her second al-
bum “A Bottle of Wine &
Patsy Cline”. The awards
are voted on earlier in the
year by disc jockeys all
across the country where
they nominate thirty artists
in each category. Each cat-
egory is then narrowed
down to the top five artists
and voted on by a panel.
Myra stated, “I can’t be-
lieve I won. I was in com-
plete shock and over-
whelmed with happiness.
There were so many de-
serving women in that cat-
egory and I was just so
honored to be amongst
them.” Myra recently
came out with her third
pure country album titled
“Hold That Thought” and
it is already receiving great
reviews from radio and
fans everywhere. Her first
single and title track off of
Pretty World Records,
“Hold That Thought” went
to number one on the Indie
World Charts and her sec-
ond single “Cant Hang Up
The Phone”, released this
past Thursday to radio is
expected to do just as well.
Myra will also be mak-
ing her third National Tele-
vision appearance on The
Shotgun Red Variety Show
on May 22nd 2014 where
she will be debuting two
songs off of her new al-
bum. The show will air on
Dish Network and Direct
TV on RFD TV.
Myra has had the honor
of opening for some of the
greatest artists in country
music, including the late
great Ray Price. “Getting
to share the same stage
with a country music icon
like Ray, was an experi-
ence that I will carry with
me forever. It was a tre-
mendous honor and he will
certainly be missed by
many.”
Myra’s music can be found

joyed her 93rd birthday,

ebration in one day; through-
out the month Dixie has re-
ceived visits, gifts, calls,
cards, Happy Birthday
wishes from numerous fam-
ily members and friends and
has enjoyed every one. She
had her son, Wayne, from

are hitting our area
These thieves are primarily
targeting the elderly, but have
been known to target
businesses as well. The caller
informs the customer they are
behind with payment and
there is a truck headed to their
house to disconnect power if
they did not pay over the
phone or go to Walmart and
send the money.
Please remember Lamar
Electric has an automated
system that contacts
customers after 5 p.m. The
automated system calls
delinquent accounts as a
reminder. The recording will
not ask for a payment nor does
it have the ability to take
payments over the phone.
Lamar Electric requests
that any member who receives
a suspicious call to ask the
name of the caller and a phone
number to call back. Then
hang up and immediately
report it to the sheriff’s
department. Asking the caller
for any information, like a
name and phone number, may
help authorities locate the
source of this scam.
At this time, one report of
this type of scam has been
reported within the area.
However, we want our
members to be aware of the
scam so they can be prepared
should they receive a phone
call.
