TAMU to hold
horsemanship
school June 12-13
The Texas A&M Horse-
manship School is in it’s
40th year of teaching youth
basic and advanced horse-
manship skills. Teams of
students in the Equine Sci-
ence Department at Texas
A&M travel across the
state to lead these inten-
sive two or three day
schools. Youth bring their
horse and learn more about
safety, bits and bitting, cor-
rect use of body, leg and
rein aids, stopping, leads,
circles, backing, two track-
ing, side passing and other
more advanced maneuvers.
Red River County 4-H
will be hosting a horse-
manship school June 12-13
at the Circle C Ranch near
Detroit. The school is free
to current 4-H members.
The cost is $25.00 for other
local youth that would like
to participate. If you like to
ride and want to learn more
about horsemanship, plan
to attend this school.
To register or get more
information, contact the
Extension office at 427-
3867. All horses brought to
the school must have a
negative Coggins test.
