side of the respective upright flange. One end
of. eacoh;earth tilling element 16 is pointed
so as. to pi-ovide' a harrow tooth, and the
other end is' fashioned or formed into a
5 diamond shaped or other. plow point 17, it
being noted that either end of the earth till-
ing element may be disposed lowermost or
in active position to engage the -soil.'
In order to clamp tie harrow teeth or
io earth tilling elements in position, bolts 18
have been passed loosely through the up-
right, flanges of the beams, one bolt being
disposed above each opening 15. These
bolts 18 are provided, with the nuts 19" on
15 their outer ends . resting or seating against
the outer faces. or sides of the upright
flanges of the beams, 'and the inner ends of
the bolts, are .bent iinto hooks in oder to
embrace the harrow teeth or earth tilling
20 elements.. The bolts 18. are preferably and
approximately disposed dii-ectly above the
forward ends of the respective slots 15, while,
.nu aperture or opening 20 is provided in each
upright flange directly above the other' or
25 rear end.of eachopening, a seconddpening 21
being provided ajoining'each bolt 18.'This'
opening 21is disposed in advance of there
spective" bolt-18,but in a slightly lower

or earth' tilling elements wheii they' are
either in a vertical'or inclined position.
To each of the beams '8, there ha 'been
s5 attached a fender or'guard 22, preferably
bent from-a -od passing' or extending along
or slightly above the upper or inactive ends
of the harrow teeth or earth tilling elements
and having.its ends bent downwardlyand
40 riveted' or.otherwise secured to the upright
. flange -of the respective beam.
In use, it will be evident from the fore-
going, that the standard "6 'may be bolted
or otherwise secured to the foot. or - other
45 depending part of the cultivator in' order
that the beams may be raised and lowered
or actuated with the foot of the cultivator
to positively bring the earth tilling elements
into 'and out of engagement with the soil.
so It will also be obvious that the attachment
may be loosely 'connected to. the foot or
other suitable depending part of 'the culti-
vator by means of the link 11 'so that 'the
attachment'-may drag or trail in-rear'of the
55 foot. When the present attachment is'em-
ployed as' a harrow, the link 111 is' prefer-
ably connected to the foot of the cultivator
whereas' when the attachment is employed
as a "cultivator plow, 'the standard 6. is
0 preferably-secured to the foot of the culti-
vator so' that the plow 'points may be swung
positively into and out of engagement'with
thesoil. Eacl ,or~hoth of the beams ikaybe
adjusted relative'"tqthe' center' 'piecesbothat
OS the beams will be masteffectively positioned;to accomplish the result desired, it being
nbted'that the pivotal member for the beams
also serves as an earth tilling element.
The present attachment may be employed
either as a harrow or as a cultivator plow, 70
as 'above" indicated, which results are ac-
complished by properly setting or adjust-
ing the earth tilling elements. When the
device is to be employed as a harrow, the
harrow teeth 16 are passed through the 75
openings 15 so that their pointed ends are
lowermost, and the' bolts 18 are then tight-
ened in .order to hold the harrow teeth in
position. The harrow teeth may be set in
an inclined position so that they may drag 80
over the soil in an effective manner, in
which event, the bolts 18 are swung so that
the hooks project forwardly and embrace
the harrow teeth. When the device is to be
employed as a cultivator plow, the plow 85
points 17 are disposed lowermost or in po-
sition to 'en gage the soil, the earth tilling
elements or harrow teeth being held in an
upright or vertical position by swinging the
hooks of the bolts 18 rearwardly. As illus- 90
trated 'in Fig. 1, the earth tilling elements
of one 'beam; are set to serve as a cultivat-
ing plow, and the elements of the other
beam are set. to serve as a drag harrow.
'The means for clamping the harrow teeth 5
or earth tilling elements in position is an ef-
fective and simple one, and not only permits
the reversal and adjustment of the harrow
teeth2 but also serves to hold the same. sub-
stantially in position. It will be noted that 100
the free' ends' 'of the bolts 18 are adapted
to engage in either of the openings 20 or
the 'openings 21 according to the position of
the harrow teeth.
The fenders or guards 22 protectthe up- 105
per or inactive ends of the harrow 'teeth or
earth tilling elements and prevent the en-
tanglement' of the stalks or plants with the
upper or inactive ends of the harrow teeth,
and also prevent the upper ends of the teeth io
from breaking or pulling off the limbs or
bolls of cotton plants.
It is to be understood, that any number of
the attachments may 'be employed in a single
cultivator, according to the nature of the 115
cultivator, in order that one or more rows
of the plants may be worked at the same
time.'The beams of each attachment may
be adjusted relative to each other and rela-
tive to the center piece in order to adapt 120
the attachment to various widths of rows,
the adjustment being a simple one.
The attachment may also be applied to
the cultivator foot in such a manner that the
harrow teeth will follow or trail after the 125
cultivator plow, so as to level the soil and
close the furrow 'made by' the cultivator
plow, which will serve to preserve the mois-
ture.' The 'plow. points 'permit -of' shallow
plowing and also assist in destroying for- is0i
