Announces for Re-
election to Congress
To the People of the First Cofrsssiaa-
a) District:
I have been expecting to get
■way from Congress several weeks
before the Primary Election, July
27th, for the purpose of visiting
every section of the District.
Every year since I have been in
Congress, I have gone over the
District and these trips have been
very profitable to me. It is only
through contacts made personally
and by correspondence that I am
able to carry out the will of the
people In the performance of my
duties as the Representative in
Congress from our District.
ft appears now that I must do
one of two things: leave my offi-
cial duties here at a time when the
reconversion period after the great-
est war in history is facing its
greatest test in Congress and do
what I would like to do— make a
thorough canvass of the District at
this time; or, remain on duty here
In Washington until the major
Ir^slntion has been enacted.
ft is my belief that you prefer
that I remain on duty in these
trying times and do my very best
to assist in the proper solution of
die momentous problems with
which we are faced.
Believing that is your will, I
expact to remain on duty here
tptil the session ends, or until the
major legislation is disposed of.

oto the District as thoroughly as
iff were campaigning for the
pBTpoac of meeting with people,
who desire to see me about offi-
cial matters, and also for the
purpose of getting first-hand your
views and suggestions concerning
Current problems.
I shall never cease to be grateful
to the people of our District for
giving me an opportunity to serve
them in Congress. 1 have faith-
fully performed my duty to the
best of my knowledge and ability.
It has been a full-time job with
m and I do not believe that any
Member has worked harder at it
than I have.
The accomplishments to my
credit were possible* only by reason
of your support. Any good that I
have done or any achievements to
my credit you have a royalty in
terest in them all, since you made
it possible.
Very few Members of Congress
in a lifetime have a major law to
their credit. February 20, 1846,
President Truman signed the Full
Employment Bill, which 1 intro
duced in the House last year, and
gave me the pen he used in signing
It, because 1 was the active sup-
porter. and introducer of, the
legislation in the House. May 22,
1946, President Truman signed
the Veterans’ Emergency Bill,
which I had sponsored since last
Aupust. So during this year,
1946, I have two major laws to my
credit, which I believe will be
helpful to the general welfare of
the pcofrfe, and especially to the
Veterans of the recent war.
My record Is well known, and if
you will again give me a vote of
confidence at the Primary Election,
July 27th, it will be very much
appreciated.
