Railway Co. agricultural agent,
and Dr. P. A. Young, in charge of
the experimental station at Jack-
sonville. were speakers at a meet-
ing at the high school vocational
building Wednesday afternoon and
discussed the marketing facilities
and growing of tomatoes.
^ Dr. Young's message was full of
valuable information to thd 'grow-
er And was appreciated by the vet-
erans' vocational class and the
other growers who could be noti-
fied of this meeting held unexpect-
edly. —
-Mr. Center- talked about pro-
viding a tomato market at De-
troit providing sufficient acreage
can be secured. He will be guest
speaker at the Lions Club Wed-
nesday night, Feb. 5, at which
time all the tomato growers in
this section are invited. If you are
not contacted, contact G. L.
Reynoldsor R. C. Morgan by
Monday, Feb 3, in order that ar-
rangements may be made.

Miss Nell Venable, bride-elect
of Donald Jackson of Blossom,
was honored Wendesday afternoon,
Dec. 22, with a miscellaneous
shower at the home of Mrs. M. C.
Melton with Mrs. Mesdames H.
A. Sharp, Donald Kerr, G. L.
Reonolds. Robert Pearce and Mel-
ton as hostesses.
Guests were greeted by Mrs.
Pc arc* and directed to the register
where Mrs. Melton presided. The
register was hand-painted by-Mrs.
A. E. Cremeen, and was extraordi-
nary lovely.
' Mesdames Kerr, Reynolds and
Sharp received the gifts, seated
the guests and kept the conversa-
tional ball rolling, while Miss
Ruth Venable furnished a back-
ground of piano music
Upon the arrival of all the
guests, Mrs. Melton directed the
group fat several games appropriate
to the occasion. The winners of
which were awarded small kitchen
utensils as prizes. Each winner, in
turn, very graciously presented
Miss Venable with theprixe she
had won.
Then the honoree was told to
follow a string which was wound
around through all the rooms and
terminated in a pot of gold /or her.
Misses Betty Jeffus, Ann Cov-
ington, Nellie Pratt, Joyce Melton
aivi Ann Venable brought the
gifts into the living room where
the honoree, assisted by her sister,
Miss Ruth Venable, opened and
passed them for everyone to ad-
mire.
It was one of the most lavish
display of gifts ever seen in this
section, and ah exceptionally well
balanced.
The hostesses served a delicious
refreshment plate to the honoree,
her mother, Mrs. Clyde Venable;

man of the Bluff graveyard, tells
us ijiat they expect to build a new
church building at the Bluff this
spring on one acre of ground se-
cured from Mr. and Mrs. Dwight
Phillips, just east of the original
plat.
The other members of the com-
mittee are John Perkins, J. B.
Pearce and Bert Adams and the
building committee are John Per-
kins, I P. Miller and Porter Nor-
wood. They have $106 97 in the
yard fund and $251.60 in the
building fund. Anyone interested
‘may give their donation to any
member of committee. The con-
