attend local high schools for the 1999-2000

Msgr. Tom McGettrick, Pastor of St.

pilgrimage to Lourdes, Rome, and Paris

process of bringing that person to

This fraternal year’s convention is over and we’re looking at next years
one to be in Corpus Christi. This will be held at the convention center
and headquartered at the Omni Bayfront Hotel.
The nominating committee should have nominations in June for the
new slate of officers and install them in June or July.
Let’s see how many star councils we can have this year and meet our
state charity goals.
Council #8066 CK Martin Flores announces that on June 13 that
council will serve chicken with trimmings and helped Christ the King
Church with turkey leg sales at its festival recently.
Council #7290 CK Roy Richter reports they will do highway cleanup
June 5 and on May 30 did corporate communion in honor of deceased
members.
Council #7038 recently inducted 3 new brothers after a major degree
initiation: Chris McSpeak, Roland Villanueva, and Victor Lara. This
council also won the Star Council and Lone Star awards for excellence.
Kingsville Council #2623 CK Oscar Reyes thanks Knights who picked
up highway trash Aril 10. They were: Brothers Alonso Arredondo, Frank
Lozano, Bill Saenz, Tomas Carza and himself. Scholarship committee
awarded high school seniors: Christine Acuna, daughter of Gilbert
Acuna; Erica Ann Carza, daughter of Juan Garza; Maria Teresa Moreno,
daughter of Florencio Moreno; Rudy Ramos Jr., son of Rudy Ramos;
Carlos Villarreal, son of Juan Villarreal. Parents are brother knights.
Corporate communion in April was a big success.
Council #1202 CK Rick Hebner reports that a waffle breakfast on
Mother’s Day was real nice. Mothers got their breakfast free. Past state
Deputy Charles Kaler of this council has been appointed Chairman of the
Guild to promote sainthood to Father Michael J. McCivney through
prayer for his work with parish and New Haven youths and for founding
the order of the Knights of Columbus to help families left fatherless.
State Deputy Ron Cay appointed Charlie to the great cause at no charge
- anyone can join. Donations accepted.
Father William DeAngelis died April 11, 1999. He was chaplain of
Council #1202 from 1992 to 1996 and member of the order since 1953.
He always asked us to pray for souls in Purgatory and especially for the
next soul to enter heaven.
Council #11107 GK Lupe Morales thanks brother knights for assisting
the chicken BBQ held April 25. Also. S250 scholarships are to be given
to graduating high school seniors who average 3.0 CPA. Morales was
also appointed as chairman and greeter and appreciation committee for
recent state convention, and for 2000 convention, held here in Corpus
Christi co-chairs are Joe Verastegoi, Diocesan Deputy and Dr. Lupe
Morales. CK of #11 107; Ladies chairs: Dr. Maria Morales and Mrs. Mary
Verategui. These people will coordinate local arrangements. Al Dennis,
recently joined this council and has agreed to work with the squires.
J.V. Arredondo, Financial Secretary of Council #5919 has been elected
chairman of the golf tournament for next year's convention.
Joe Quintero. CK of Council #11 567 get credit for the Altar Servers
banquet May 1. Members cooked hamburgers with trimmings for the
servers and their parents. He was also appointed chairman for the 2000
convention ads.
