Local runners invited to participate in November relays
The fourth annual international run Carrera Antorcha
Guadalupana, from Mexico City to New York City, will be
coming through the Diocese of Corpus Christi in Novem-
ber. Local runners are invited to join them on a leg of this
relay race that begins at the Basilica of Our Lady of
Guadalupe in Mexico City Oct. 10, where the torch is lit,
and is carried for 60 days to arrive in New York City on
December 12, the feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe. The
torch will cross nine Mexican states and 14 U.S. states in
the run that is sponsored by the Asociacion Tepeyac, which
is endorsed by the Archdiocese of New York.

thousands of families divided by the borders.
The objective is to unite people who are separated by
the borders of two countries and to promote friendship
and solidarity among community groups.
More than 5,000 runners will participate with an
estimated audience of more than 22 million people along
the route.
Dates and places where local runners may join the group
are the leg from Kingsville to Corpus Christi on Nov. 8,
from Corpus Christi to Beeville on Nov. 9 and from
Beeville to San Antonio on Nov. 11. The runners will be
starting and ending at local parishes. To join the runners

The Diocesan Council of Catholic Women is sponsor-
ing a Womens Retreat that will take place on Oct. —^
8, 2005 at the Incarnate Word and Blessed
Sacrament Sisters house on the La Parra Ranch r
near Sarita, Texas. (It is located near the Lebh jJL
Shomea House of Prayer.) uJ
All women are invited to attend.
The theme of the retreat is a celebration of
women. It will include a look at some of the II
women in Scripture and their witness to Gods
love and how these women help us as women of today
become more effective witnesses of God’s love.
The I.W.B.S. house offers an opportunity to have a
retreat experience away from our usual surroundings so
that we can focus on our relationship with God and with
each other. The retreat will begin with Mass at 9:30 a.m.
celebrated by our moderator, Father James Stembler.
Following the Mass, there will be talks given by Sister
Annette Wagner, I.W.B.S. There will also be time
for quiet reflection and fellowship. Everyone is
asked to bring a sack lunch and drink. Desserts
will be provided.
We ask that all who plan to join us for the retreat
call Rose Hickey, Church Commission Chair, at
361/595-7663 so that we can have a headcount. A
donation of $5 is also requested from each attendee as an
offering to the I.W.B.S. sisters for the use of their facility
This offering can be sent to Rose Hickey at the following
address: 1205 Palm Ave., Kingsville ,TX, 78363.
Please let Rose know by Oct. 1 so that the appropriate
arrangements can be made. This retreat offers women of
the diocese an opportunity to come together to reflect
and share. We hope to see many of you at the Women’s
Retreat. May God bless all the ladies of our diocese.
