About Hal Collins running
for Governor, and who is now,
instead of Crazy Crystals, sell-
ing a “nice lithograph” at 25
cents per each, to help expenses,
Mr. A. Hope Wheeler, also a
gubernatorial aspirant, has this
to say: “I think he (Collins)

We saw several Lions working
up a little perspiration as they
tripped around the floor. Wq
saw Lion Jack Davis dance a-
round the floor twice—a world
record for him, as well as wq
can find out. We also saw Lion
Foster Becker in attendance.
This also constitutes a record
as far as our memory can serve
us. Everyone seemed to have a
good time in spite of the extra
heat. Some of the heat, incident
ly, was bottled.
Another Lions leaves us td
serve in Uncle Sam's armed
forces. Lion Glenn F. Glenn, our
newest and youngest member,
has taken up active duties with
nursing a bottle labeled “Crazy
Water.”
We can’t figure out just
where our Mr. Kilday now
stands, he is still wrestling iri
the courts trying to have only
his name on the ballot as can-
didate for R. R. Commissioner,
and now comes his old pal Jerry
Sadler “withdrawing” his resig-
nation—so whats cooking?

Alas, we are a long and bloody
and terrible way yet from that
blissful state in which biscuits
form the only proper subject
for senatorial discussion.
CANDIDATE FOR
GOVERNOR
The only essential issue in
the race for Governor is the
winning of this war. No legis-
lation that does not look in this
direction is a non essential. To
win this war the greatest need
is unity of purpose, concord and
amity, and freedom of contro-
versial^ issues so that all of us
civilians can help to victory
united in good feeling among
all of us.
Now comes Hal Collins basing
his campaign (so he said) with
pledges to tighten liquor law
enforcement, clean up road-side
taverns and with the promise
to veto any bill seeking the re-
turn of race track gambling.
In his opening address at
Waco he repeats all the old,
time worn and threadbare
claims of prohibtion advocates

on the ticket.
“I really don’t think Mr.
Sadler can get his office back.
He tried to name his successor,
and when he couldn’t, he tries
to withdraw his resignation. He
says by his actions that if he
won’t be allowed to name his
successor, he won’t quit the
commission. But he had already
quit.”
J. Frank Dobie, author, cow-
hand and Texan writes in Dallas
News:
Senator Lee O’Daniel says.

I am making this formal an-
nouncement of my candidacy
for the office of County Judgq
of Kendall County.
Due to restrictions on tires,
it may become impossible to
travel as much and see as many
voters as I would like, so I will
be glad to have any one call on
me and get my views about the
conduct of the office.
I am not a stranger to Ken-
dall County; I have lived in the
county for ten years and have
been a taxpayer for fifteen
years.
I am serving as Justice of
the Peace, Precinct No. 1 dur-
ing the present term, and am
and have been active in Defense
Work since its inception. I am
a veteran of World War I.
To win this war, we must
practice economy personally and
publicly. I pledge myself to this
end, and by this I mean that
every penny of the county s
money be spent wisely and
economically, but with due re-
gard of the needs of good
efficient government.
All purchases must be close-
race track owners can become ly supervised, and taxpayers
should at all times be fully ad-
vised through the press for
what purposes their money is
spent. A complete statement of
the County’s fiscal affairs must
be published at the end of each
fiscal year.
The standards of our rural
schools must be maintained.

OBSERVATIONS
By Joachim Besen
I feel sorry for those people
who hate someone just on ac-
count of his race, color or creed,
yet at the same time I have no
sympathy for them.

It’s funny, some people are
liars and know it, yet they get
provoked if someone tries to
agree with them.
