FISCHER TAKES
TIME TRIALS
Palmer Fischer who comes
all the way from Fredericks-
burg to drive his roomy sedan,
the “Flying athtub,” fairly
needed wing flaps and a clear-
to-land signal as his car zoom-
ed by the hceckered flag in
20.8 seconds.
All Fred Elbel needed was an
extra puff of wind in his at-
tempt at the fastest trial, for
his “Comet” streaked around
in 20.9 seconds.
These time trial results auto-
matically made Fischer and
Elbel the participants in the
opening event, the Hairnet
dash. The drivers kept their
cars close* together, but Fischer
kept the inside on the curves
and nosed out Elbel to Buzz the
finish in 1 minute, 6.70 seconds.

To enhance an impressive list of manufacturing “firsts,!’
Chevrolet now engages in another pioneering venture as
the first motor car manufacturer to sponsor a regular
commercial television show. Admittedly an exploratory
venture to evaluate the possibilities of television as an
advertising medium, these broadcasts were the first
employing live talent to be sponsored by any automobile
producer. Four weekly shows were staged by Chevrolet
and broadcast through the facilities of the American
Broadcasting Company’s television network. The shows
were televised at Pie Dumont Studios in New York for
the three stations currently teamed in the ABC television
network. Shown above is a scene from the second of the
series, a half-hour program titled “Roads to Romance.”

CITY BOARD OF
EQUALIZATION MEETS
The city council met as a
board equalizaition Tuesday
'and raised every lot which had
previously been assessed at $50
to a new assessed valuation of
$100.
Most vacant lots in Boerne
were assessed at $50 per lot
when the city was first incor-
porated.. The city was first in-
corporated. The values have in-
creased so much in Boerne that,
in order to render a fair assess-
ment the lots should have a
basic value for assessing at
$100 each.
The city tries to have assess-
ments rendered at one-third of
the valuation and certainly
there are no $150 lots in Boerne
today.
The raise will cause the tax-
payer ot pay $1.50 in taxes in-
stead of 75 cents on each vacant
lot assessed.
The council believes that this
step should have been taken
ten years ago.
