one of the main achievements of my inven-
tion, but another very important point is
the fact that when the gate valve 6 is closed,
suction through the tube 3 is not immediately
checked since the air inlet 15 is opened. This
is advantageous, since it prevents clogging
of such tube as will be readily understood.
From the foregoing description, taken in
connection with the accompanying drawings,
10 it will be obvious that although the improved.
nozzle is of very simple and inexpensive con-
struction, it will be highly efficient and dur-
able and will possess a number of advan-
tageous characteristics.
15 In the preceding, certain specific details
of construction have been described, and in
the drawings such details have been illus-
trated, but obviously changes may be made
within the scope of the invention as claimed,.
20 without sacrificing any of the advantages
thereof.
I claim:
1. A nozzle for pneumatic:cotton picking
machines.comprising a tube having adjacent
2 5 its front end a valve for partially or wholly
closing the tube, and having in rear. of said
valve an air inlet opening, a longitudinally
disposed lever fulcrumed between its ends
to the tube at a point spaced between the
valve and .the aforesaid opening, the front 3
arm of said lever being operatively connected
with the valve, and an additional valve con-
nected to the rear arm of said lever for nor-
mally closing the aforesaid opening.
2. A nozzle for pneumatic cotton picking 35
machines comprising a tube having adjacent
its front end a valve for, partially or wholly
closing the tube and having in rear of said
valve an air inlet opening, a longitudinally
disposed lever fulcrumed between its ends 40
to the tube at a point spaced between the
valve and the aforesaid opening, the front
arm of said lever being operatively connected
with the valve, and an arcuate valve plate
carried rigidly by the rear arm of said lever 45
for snug contact with the tube to close the
aforesaid opening therein.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set
my hand in presence of two subscribing
witnesses.
