maintained in a. moist condition, the water
or liquid being constantly evaporated there-
from to thereby absorb the heat from the
surrounding medium to thereby cool the
5 various articles disposed within the cooler.
The jacket 13 is provided with two apertures
14 adjacent the top, which apertures allow
the ventilating pipes 11 to pass therethrough.
The jacket is illustrated in the drawings
10 as being provided with a number of buttons
and button-holes 15, it being understood
however, that any desirable means may be
employed whereby the meeting edges of the
jacket may be suitably held together and at
15 the same time be easily detachable, to there-
by render accessible the interior of the
cooler. In order that the jacket 13 will
suitably isolate the various compartments
the outstanding flange members 16 are rig-
2 0 idly secured to the sides of the cooler and
terminate flush with the ventilating pipes
11, the result being that although the venti-
lating pipes 11 hold the jacket away from
the sides of the cooler, the outstanding
25 flanges 16 will contact with the. jacket and
prevent the air from one compartment from
circulating throughout the other compart-
men ts.
From the foregoing it will be apparent
30 that the improved cooler will. by the evap-
oration of water, maintain the articles dis-
posed therein in a cooled condition and that
by the construction such as I have outlined, the articles disposed on one shelf will be
maintained in contact with fresh air and 35
suitably isolated from articles disposed on
the other shelves.
Having thus described the invention what
I claim is:
An evaporative cooler comprising an up- 40
right frame, screens extending therebetween
and forming the walls thereof, shelving ex-
tending transversely of said frame and de-
fining compartments, independent flues ex-
tending along the side walls of said com- 45
partments and communicating therewith,
outwardly extending ledges in alinement
with the shelving and extending flush with
the outer surface of said flues, and a textile
jacket positioned around and lying in con- 50,
tact with the said screen-like walls and ly-
ing in contact with the flues and outstanding
ledges, the side jacket and independent flues
maintaining the various compartments in a
non-communicating condition and prevent- 55
ing the passage of air between the various
compartments, and means for maintaining
the said jacket in a moist condition.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as
my own, I have hereto affixed my signature 60
in the presence of two witnesses.
